Overview
Job Summary
Perform various payroll accounting duties including payroll tax preparation, review, and filing; preparing, entering, reviewing journal entries; reviewing general ledger accounts; calculating and processing bonus payments; and creating reports for internal and external stakeholders. Research and assist with the implementation of new and revised payroll laws. Perform other related work.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
- Verify timely and accurate tax payments.
- Prepare, review, and reconcile payroll tax filings and amendments.
- Maintain accruals for various earnings including bonus and lump sum programs; collaborate with Payroll and HR leadership on accurate and timely payments.
- Prepare, enter, and review journal entries.
- Compute and validate various earnings and earnings corrections.
- Prepare and balance manual adjustments to earnings and withholdings.
- Construct custom data requests and assist with audits.
- Research payroll implications of new laws related to pay and withholdings; help implement changes to ensure compliance.
- Review and document applicable processes and procedures; make suggestions for process improvement and efficiencies.
- Perform reviews of payroll-related general ledger accounts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance OR equivalent combination of education, training and experience in a financial account or staff accountant role.
Experience:
- At least two (2) years of experience in payroll related accounting.
- Creating, posting, reviewing and approving journal entries.
- Computing tax payments, completing tax forms, and reconciling tax entries.
- Researching payroll tax laws and making recommendations for implementation.
- Utilizing strong analytical and problem-solving skills dealing with a variety of payroll/accounting scenarios with close attention to detail.
- Effectively prioritizing and performing a variety of simultaneous tasks (multi-tasking) in a high-pressure environment, demonstrating initiative and self-direction to complete projects within expected deadlines or defined time estimates.
- Demonstrating proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software with a strong emphasis in Excel.

- Work under pressure to meet deadlines of a variety of simultaneous workloads.
- Manage multiple priorities and assess to adjust quickly as conditions warrant or priorities change.
- Exhibit exceptional communication skills, attention to detail, critical thinking, and initiative.
- Perform all tasks with integrity and extreme confidentiality.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred Experience:
- Financial reporting (GAAP) and general ledger experience.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or Master’s degree.
