What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adult Education ESL Instructor (Part-Time) position at Windsor Public Schools?
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
- Follows up with students who have poor attendance.
- Effictively assesses student needs and progress using the CASAS Assessment System.
- Collaborates with fellow teachers to develop individualized intervention plans and materials based on student data.
- Develops and implements rigorous and engaging lesson plans.
- Prepares appropriate instructional aids and display materials to enhance learning.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student’s needs.
- Continues to grow professional knowledge of both educational and industry best practices by attending seminars, workshops, professional meetings and by maintaining professional relationships with members of the business community.
- Coordinates with other professional staff members, and participates in faculty meetings.
- Attends appropriate SDE meetings and trainings
- Hourly rate is $48.62
- Work hours are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 9:00 AM-11:30 AM
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director and Facilitator of Adult Education.
- Knowledge of current adult education teaching methods and differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
- Knowledge of the Connecticutl Competency System (CCS), including the CASAS Competencies.
- Work with Program Facilitator in teh implementation of the CCS
- Uses results from CASAS Pre/Post Assessments to plan and differentiate instruciton based on learner's abilities and goals.
- Knowledge of the CCRS ELA 101 and 102 and/or ELP standards and research-based strategies for supporting students in English Language aquisition.
- Enters daily and/or weekely lesson plans into shared Google folder.
- Knowledge of current and sound educational practices in the teaching of secondary English Language Arts.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
- Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, and colleagues.
- Provide opportunity for students to receive out-of-class instruction and/or assistance.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

- Connecticut State Endorsement as a Secondary English Teacher (#088) and/or TESOL (#111)
- Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
- Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
- Successful prior teaching experience as an English as a second Language teacher in an adult edcuation setting.
- Works in standard classroom and school building environments.
