Summer Youth Coordinator (SYEP)

Job Purpose & Position Overview
The Summer Youth Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP), securing worksites for up to (60) youth, overseeing up to (60) youth workers, while adhering to guidelines for selection of Summer Youth Participants. The Summer Youth Coordinator will be responsible for the annual SYEP Job Fair. The Summer Youth Coordinator will be responsible in completing weekly random checks on youth workers at their worksites.
Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate the Winnebago Tribe’s core mission, vision, and values.
- Work with the Higher Education Director on updating the online application and checking applicant list as needed.
- Distribute SYEP brochures to youth ages 14 – 18 years old (up to 21 years of age if student has an IEP) at Winnebago Public School and St. Augustine and other locations in the community.
- Responsible for following through with weekly scheduled Summer Youth workshops with other programs, departments and organizations.
- Completes orientation with SYEP participants before placed at jobsite(s).
- Complete and submit monthly reports as well as the end of the year report.
- Transport summer youth participants to worksites and other locations when necessary.
- Must acquaint themselves with Winnebago Public School and St. Augustine School students and teachers.
- Will be responsible for tracking and entering hours worked for all SYEP participants for each pay period.
- Will assist in planning and organization of the end of summer trip for SYEP participants.
- Works closely with the Higher Education program staff and Social Services program staff to accomplish summer youth activities.
- Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with youth participants and immediate supervisors.
- Responsible for disciplinary action of youth workers when necessary.
- Attend trainings/meetings as necessary pertaining to Summer Youth.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends when applicable.

Required Qualifications/Skills:
- A high school diploma or GED is required; an associate’s degree in education is preferred or related field and a minimum two years of related work experience preferably in Higher Education.
- Must have excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
- Must be timely, dependable, courteous, and maintain a business-like appearance.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to speak to large groups of people.
- Experience in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Must be a positive role model for students and families in the community.
- Must be able to maintain the strictest confidentiality and will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, maintain valid insurance and must meet driver’s eligibility guidelines.
- Must be able to pass a federal background check and submit to a pre-employment drug screen.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- N/A (Should we change this; the coordinator is responsible for all youth workers on board)
Training Requirements:
- Must attend all department meetings and training courses as directed by the Higher Education Director.
Physical Requirements:
- Normal to light office work which includes the ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
- Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office equipment.
- While performing daily duties, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.

Language Requirements:
- Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.
- Must be able to continually and effectively employ professional verbal and written communications skills.
Certificates, Licenses & Registrations:
- All applicants will comply with 45 CFR 1301, Subpart D, Section 1301.31, C and D, which require all prospective employees to sign a declaration prior to employment regarding all arrests and convictions of child abuse or violent felonies and to comply with PL 101-630 and PL 101-637 regarding criminal records check.
