TITLE: Youth Diversion Coordinator
LOCATION: Vermillion
REPORTS TO: Unit Director, Vermillion
CLASSIFIED: Full-time, Exempt

JOB SUMMARY: The Youth Diversion Coordinator will manage, coordinate, and expand the local Juvenile Detention Alternatives (JDAI) and oversee the Teen Court programs in Yankton and Vermillion. The Youth Diversion Coordinator is responsible for implementing the 5 key elements of positive youth development: fun, safety, recognition, opportunities & expectations, and supportive relationships in their daily interactions with youth and their staff’s daily interactions with youth. The Youth Diversion Coordinator is expected to uphold the Club values inside and outside of the Club and hold their team accountable for maintaining the Club values. JOB DUTIES:
- Plan and coordinate regular meetings of the JDAI workgroup.
- Duties include agenda planning, pre-meeting data review and analysis, preparation of data and other materials to be shared and discussed, running the meeting, and keeping minutes.
- Prepare and review various written documents, procedures, agreements, formal position statements, action plans, and other assignments as needed.
- In consultation with the state JDAI coordinator, participate in state JDAI meetings, JDAI training seminars; JDAI model site visits to other states; and the national JDAI conference.
- Keep the JDAI collaborative and other South Dakota JDAI partners informed of progress and challenges with regular reports/communications summarizing recent issues, policy/procedure changes, significant developments, and other activities.
- Assist in the development of policies and procedures for the program.
- Collaborate with Yankton County State’s Attorney, law enforcement, schools, court services, and other community partners.
- Ensure programmatic quality through definable program outcome measurements and objectives.
- Complete screening and assessment for youth and families referred to the diversion program.
- Gather information from youth, parents, schools, and social service agencies.
- Provide case management services and community referrals as needed.
- Meet with the diversion program's family and/or youth for guidance, education, and motivation.
- Attend court as needed for testimony, information sharing, and receipt of referrals.
- Maintain an awareness of available community resources.
- Responsible for planning/developing, implementing, and evaluating Teen Court in Yankton.
- Responsible for developing and implementing prevention/intervention programs for Teen Court participants in Yankton with quantitative and qualitative measurements.
- Marketing and promotions to the community's public, schools, and youth on Teen Court.
- Responsible for recruiting, training, and maintaining adult and youth volunteers in each community.
- Update all Teen Court information on an annual basis.
- Create relationships with Assistant States Attorneys, lawyers, and judges in each county that involves reporting, meeting, and consistent communication between them and Teen Court.
- Responsible for managing all Teen Court data and submitting quarterly reports as requested.
ADMINISTRATIVE/MANAGEMENT:
- Responsible for holding biweekly team and individual one-on-one meetings with all direct report staff.
- Responsible for hiring, supervising, and evaluating all direct report staff by creating and implementing 60-day reviews, performance plans, and quarterly reviews.
- Provides leadership and direction to volunteers and staff to ensure they develop the ability to carry out the Club’s youth development mission and that they utilize the organization’s goals, objectives, and policies.
- Attends 100% of monthly all-staff meetings, weekly one-on-one sessions with supervisory, and weekly team meetings.
- Responsible for assisting with all special events at the Club.
- On snow days and unexpected full days, covering all shifts to ensure the Club can open.
- Participation in Club wide events as determined necessary by the supervisor
- Responsible for managing certain budget line items and grant requirements, ensuring you stay within budget.
EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an Accredited University is preferred
- Minimum of 1-year experience with youth services organizations
- Management/Supervisory Experience
- Must understand, implement, and demonstrate behavior management principles and other youth treatment modalities, per the Club training and values of fun, supportive relationships, recognition, opportunities and expectations, and safety.
- Must be able to provide leadership, on-the-spot and reflective feedback, and supervision to assigned employees to ensure they, too, understand and demonstrate principles of behavior management and other youth treatment modalities, per the Club training and values of fun, supportive relationships, recognition, opportunities and expectations, and safety.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be of the mental and physical capacity to observe, interact, and communicate with youth, staff, volunteers, parents, etc., at the Club to ensure the safety of the space and others, provide guidance and reflection per the Club priority outcomes and goals
- Ability to stand/sit for long periods throughout a shift
- Ability to operate various types of general office equipment including PC, telephone, copier, etc.
