Youth Worker Supervisor 

Reports to: Unit Coordinator                                                                                               
 
Salary (Grade): $21.66 (G16-E)

Location: Winnebago youth Facility and YCIC located in Winnebago, NE 68071  
 
Job Purpose & Position Overview 
Direct supervision of Youth Services in the Youth Shelter and Youth Crisis Intervention Center, staff secured unit, and the treatment group home II. Responsible for scheduling and assignment of workers in a twenty-four hour facility. Supervisor will be required to fill in shifts by calling workers, covering it themselves when needed. Supervisor will assist and direct staff with managing emotional or behavior problems of youth served, as well as assist with intake, training staff, building operations, working with the public, such as parents, law enforcement, and referring agency personnel required. The supervisor will also assist in the treatment planning for the youth.  Incumbent must be knowledgeable of the various community youth-serving programs and resources and YCIC case management process. Some degree of hazard is present when working with juveniles with emotional/psychological problems. 
 
Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities: 
  • Demonstrates the Winnebago Tribe’s core mission, vision, and values 
  • Direct involvement with youth behavior such as aggression, emotional difficulties, or conflict. 
  • Supervise and help train staff and work with youth. 
  • Making sure all positions are covered by staff for the day supervisor works. Calling replacement staff when employees do not come in for work and sometimes filling in for staff that does not show up for work. 
  • Provide information as well as work with parents who may be upset with having their child in placement. 
  • Attending staff meetings help with the program development and treatment planning. 
  • Ensure agency building and vehicle is properly maintained. 
  • Develops, implements, and supervises juvenile recreation, education, social service and activity programs; identifies those juveniles requiring special services or programs; expedites the steps necessary to provide or obtain these services. 
  • Familiar with and implementing the policies and procedures of the Youth Shelter and YCIC facility as set forth by the handbook, policy manual, and any other directives as promulgated by the unit coordinator. 
  • Provides outreach services for disenfranchised youth wherever youth is located. 
  • Responsible for intake and orientating juveniles, parents, and guardians, attorneys, social workers, significant others and concerned agencies as to the policies and functions of the Youth Facility and YCIC facility. 
  • Implements a daily activity program and monitors youth throughout the day or shift in all areas of group living. 
  • Will complete all required instructor training and serve as a trainer as instructed by the facility director. 
  • Be aware of the youth’s medical and special needs and coordinates assistance in those areas. 
  • Will dispense medication to resident youth as directed on medication label. 
  • Assists when ordering meals, meal preparation, and serving meals as well as snacks when appropriate. 
  • Will also assist and supervise daily clean up and maintenance of the facility.

Required Qualifications/Skills: 
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in any human services field (Psychology, Criminal Justice, Social Work, etc.) is preferred. A minimum of a two (2) year degree or 48 college credit hours in the same related field will be considered with 2 years of supervising experience or working in the same field of childcare under supervision. 
  • Ability to deal with public and employees courteously and tactfully, to elicit information effectively, to convey concise and accurate explanations of agencies policies, procedures, and requirements. 
  • Ability with limited supervision to make decisions and be able to work effectively in crisis or stressful situations. 
  • Must be 21 years old or older and provide proof. 
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and meet driver’s eligibility guidelines. 
  • Must be in suitable physical condition to handle physically aggressive youth. 
Supervisory Responsibilities: 
  • Responsible for supervising all youth workers.   
Training Requirements: 
  • As Directed by management 
 Physical Requirements: 
  • Heavy office work which includes the ability to lift up to 30-50 lbs. 
  • Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office equipment. 
  • While performing daily duties, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. 
  • Manual dexterity with cooperatively free range of motion of all extremities including neck, fingers, hands, wrists, elbows, arms, shoulders, waist, legs, hips, knee joints, ankles, and feet is required. 
  • Supervisors may be subject to physical exertion involving standing, walking, and running which could require sustained and considerable strength and endurance. 
 Mental Requirements: 
  • Reading, writing, calculating 
  • Above average social interaction skills 
  • Reasoning/Analysis 
  • Works with minimal to no supervision 
 Language Requirements: 
  • Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently. 
  • Must be able to continually and effectively employ professional verbal and written communications skills. 
Certificates, Licenses & registrations: 
  • All applicants will comply with 45 CFR 1301, Subpart D, Section 1301.31, C and D, which require all prospective employees to sign a declaration prior to employment regarding all arrests and convictions of child abuse or violent felonies and to comply with PL 101-630 and PL 101-637 regarding criminal records check.
