Position Overview:
The Manager of Accounting is primarily responsible for the leadership and oversight of the Accounting practices at Winona Health. In conjunction with the CFO, the Manager will develop internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures for these functions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Hires and supervises Staff Accountants and Financial Analyst. Provides ongoing mentorship and performance feedback to direct report. Ensures adequate cross-training and back up is in place for key processes.
- Leads Winona Health's annual audit process; serves as primary contact for auditors.
- Reviews all monthly journal entries.
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with accounting policies and procedures, proactively addressing technical accounting activities, and oversight of general ledger.
- Ensures the integrity and compliance of internal and external financial reporting, the compliance and coordination of audit requirements, as well as other filings (e.g., 990s, Cost Report, HAR).
- Prepares and processes general ledger journal entries timely and accurately for assigned areas of responsibility and provides analysis of operations.
- Prepares monthly account reconciliations to general ledger and other sources.
- Maintains knowledge of the general ledger chart of accounts.
- Responsible for account coding accuracy for all transactions. Has the authority to change or modify account distribution and informs individuals impacted of any changes made.
- Maintains solid working relationship with all Winona Health caregivers and exhibits excellent communication skills to answer inquires and resolves discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Fields questions and inquiries from external customers in a timely manner.
- Leads annual Medicare and Medicaid cost report preparation, Occupational Mix Survey, Hospital Annual Report, and other regulatory reporting as needed.
- Seeks innovative ways to improve processes, using Lean tools, maintains standard work and actively researches best practice for accounting functions.

Skills and Experience:
Required:
- Associate's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business/Healthcare related field required and 5 years related experience in public accounting and/or healthcare financial accounting
- Advanced computer skills in Word, Excel, Access or other database, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Proficient with accounting software
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to effectively interact with customers to understand their needs and explain data
- Ability to train, supervise, and mentor staff
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships
Preferred:
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business/Healthcare related field
- Knowledge and experience with lean and leading process improvement activities
