JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Associate Director of Leadership Giving is responsible for designing and implementing engagement strategies for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding qualified donors for gifts to designated areas in the institution. This position will play a vital role securing philanthropic support for Winterthur initiatives through regular interaction with current and prospective donors, with a specific focus on the leadership giving level ($2,500 - $24,999). In addition, this position will manage strategy to build a pipeline of annual donors and increase retention rates for Winterthur’s Founder’s Circle leadership giving society and for the Winterthur Business Associates corporate support program. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic self-starter who is capable of building sustainable, long-term philanthropic relationships while meeting annual fundraising goals and independently prioritizing responsibilities.

Compensation: $68,000

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 35 hours/week

Responsibilities:

1. Develop solicitation strategies for a portfolio of 75 prospects and current donors to secure gifts for specifically designated areas of the institution, the Founder’s Circle donor society, and Winterthur Business Associates.
2. Develop and implement strategies to identify and engage prospects who will expand the donor base and establish and strengthen relationships with existing donors.
3. Under the Chief Development Officer’s direction, meet metrics as assigned, including goals for prospect visits, solicitations submitted, gifts secured, while managing prospect tracking and correspondence. Regularly communicate progress toward these goals.
4. Move potential donors to solicitation and closure, with active and regular communication via writing, phone and in person visits.
5. Plan strategic engagement, cultivation, and stewardship activities for existing donor society members in collaboration with Stewardship Coordinator and the Collections, Conservation, Library and Garden Divisions.
6. Develop compelling collateral material to clearly convey fundraising messages aligned institutional priorities in collaboration with Marketing.
7. Create customized proposals, reports, acknowledgements, and other related communications.
8. Participate in select programs and donor events as needed.
9. Performs other duties as requested.

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Experience: Bachelor's degree with 3-5 years of experience working in a membership, development, or alumni office

Preferred Experience: BA in art history or decorative arts

Knowledge/Skills:

1. Demonstrated passion and commitment to Winterthur.
2. Proven ability to identify and build strong external relationships with a variety of donors, volunteers and other stakeholders; Must demonstrate friendliness, professionalism, and a donor-centric approach.
3. Track record of success in meeting fundraising goals and demonstrated experience securing major gifts from individuals.
4. Proficient skills in Microsoft Office, Tessitura or comparable CRM, and project management software
5. Excellent organizational skills.
6. Excellent written communication skills.
7. Ability to manage multiple tasks and to prioritize.
8. Ability to handle confidential or financial information with discretion

Essential Functions:

1. Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a defensive driving course
2. Ability to stand for periods of time.
3. Engage in conversation with members, donors, and Board of Trustees
4. Pass golf cart training for use with donors
5. Ability to work at a computer for up to 8 hours a day
