Salary range is $40,000 to $45,000


Job Summary: The IT Support Specialist role is to assist in ensuring the stable operation of the in-house computer network as directed by the IT Manager/Director. This includes analyzing and resolving end user hardware and software computer problems in a timely and accurate fashion. End user assistance includes both internal users (Institute staff) and external customers (conference guests).

Essential Responsibilities (as directed by IT Manager/Director):

  • Troubleshoot issues with computer applications or systems, including Windows desktop and server OS and Apple OS.
  • Provide technical support and training for computer and network issues for both internal and external end users.
  • Handle user technical support cases through phone, email and ticket submission.
  • Respond to user questions and concerns; assists in interpreting user needs and implementing solutions.
  • Setup and maintenance of end user accounts, permissions, and access rights, active directory basics.
  • Manage equipment, hardware and software upgrades and maintain and update inventory for equipment.
  • Management of security solutions, including firewall, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Management and installation of network hardware and equipment: Routers, switches, access points, and UPSs.
  • Setup, installation and maintenance of network, satellite and phone cabling.
  • Setup, installation and maintenance of telephone, voicemail and satellite equipment.
  • Assist in creating and updating policies, procedures and site documentation
  • Protect organization's value by keeping information confidential.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Operation of servers, including e-mail, print and backup servers and their associated operating systems and software.
  • Assist with monitoring and testing network performance and providing reports and statistics.
  • Conduct research to gain information about products or processes and stay up to date on emerging industry trends.
  • Meet financial requirements by monitoring expenses.
  • Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, safety rules and instructions.
  • Perform other duties as required.


Requirements

Competency or position requirements:

  • General knowledge of network functionality, printers, VLAN, UPS, VoIP, wireless, switching, routing, virtualization technologies and Network Protocols: TCP/IP, Ethernet, T1, IEEE 802.x, VPNs.
  • Working technical knowledge of networking, computer operating systems, phone systems, and satellite TV’s
  • Experience with core software applications
  • Software/hardware troubleshooting experience and application support experience
  • Ability to self-manage time, maintain attention to detail, and to prioritize deadlines in a fast paced environment.
  • Professional appearance and team-minded attitude
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Flexible work schedule

Environmental Factors: (lifting, standing, sitting, sounds, chemicals, hazards, etc.)

  • Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time (8-10 hours)
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Required Education: Associate degree in a computer related field, Bachelor’s in related field preferred

Required Experience: 1-3 years with degree/5 without
