We are assisting our client, the Catholic Diocese of Green Bay, with the recruitment and selection of a Controller to join their Finance Department. Located in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the Diocese covers 16 counties and serves 156 parishes. The Controller reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day financial accounting, budgeting and tax compliance for all diocesan entities. This is primarily an in-person on-site position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the accuracy and productivity of day-to-day diocesan accounting activities, including accounts payable, cash disbursements, billing, cash receipts, payroll, general ledger accounting, and fixed asset accounting.
- Plan, direct and organize accurate and timely financial reporting to diocesan entities, departments and the Diocesan Finance Council.
- Supervise various finance department staff. Hire, develop, and coach staff to meet performance standards.
- Responsible for the preparation and monthly monitoring of annual budgets by corporation and department.
- Attend select Corporate Board meetings and act as a resource to the Boards.
- Oversee grant and endowment accounting; ensure expenditures are aligned with grant and program budgets; complete financial reporting materials for government and foundation grants.
- Manage organizational cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with Diocesan Finance Officer and Mission Team Leaders.
- Prepare financial analysis of business activity and financial position to be used by executive leadership in key decision-making processes.
- Assist in the completion of external audits for all Diocesan entities (16 corporations).
- Ensure all Diocesan entities maintain conformity to existing tax laws by preparing diocesan tax returns and answering Internal Revenue Service and Wisconsin Department of Revenue correspondence.
- Evaluates accounting policies, procedures and internal controls to ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and that Diocesan assets are adequately safeguarded.
- Research and resolve accounting issues in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Maintain proper internal controls and enforcement of policies and procedures.
- Attend retreats, seminars, and small group discussions where faith is discussed.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting and Certified Public Accountant designation preferred.
- 7 years progressive financial management experience, including supervision of daily operations including accounts receivable, accounts payable and grant management.
- Strong knowledge of accounting standards, practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of general tax laws and year-end tax reporting requirements.
