JOB TITLE: Blow Molding Lead Technician

REPORT TO: Production Supervisor

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Production Supervisor, the Blow Molding Lead Technician operates automated high speed floor machines which blow finished bottles from preforms.

JOB DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Monitor the Blow Molder to ensure a continuous supply of bottles to the filler.
  • Monitor the bottle quality through the required quality testing, making process changes to ensure the highest quality bottle is blown, complete and accurate documentation of all testing.
  • Stage and change out preform gaylords on the preform feed system as needed.
  • Complete machine changeovers as dictated by the production schedule.
  • Monitor the Pressco Inspection System for quality trends that may require attention.
  • Monitor the Utility Equipment for alarms or needed preventative maintenance.
  • Complete all required paperwork at the end of each run while maintaining traceability paperwork for the preforms used.
  • Work with the Bottle Line Lead Person or Bottle Line Filler Operator for accurate bottle cutoffs.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on machines as needed.
  • Follow all safety policies.
  • Follow all Food Safety and GMP Policies.
  • Follow all clean-up procedures on the machines and work areas.
  • Follow the production schedule with accuracy.
  • Notify the Production Supervisor of any quality or Food Safety concerns.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Requires ability to operate a computer terminal and machine HMI's (Human Medium Interfaces).

Requires good mathematics skills and good verbal and written communications skills. Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions. Requires fine manipulation to operate computers, HMI touch screens, and quality lab testing equipment. Must be able to work under minimum supervision.

Essential Job Functions (The fundamental job duties):

  • Monitor the Blow Molder to ensure continuous supply of bottles.
  • Conduct quality testing of bottles at the required frequency with results recorded.
  • Monitor and supply preforms to the preform feed system as needed.
  • Follow the production schedule with accuracy.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork: preform traceability, blow molder log and quality testing logs.
  • Complete preventative maintenance as needed.
  • Monitor the utility equipment for alarms and potential preventative maintenance.
  • Communicate effectively with the Bottle Line Lead Person and Bottle Filler Operator.

Marginal Job Functions (Not fundamental job duties):

  • Provide support as needed to other machines or machine operators.
  • Complete cleaning of the equipment and room as well as the support areas.

Describe and explain the lifting and carrying requirements. Examples: the distance material is carried; how high material is lifted, etc.

  • Required to lift, remove and replace covers from preform gaylords at a height of 4 feet.
  • Required to dump waste preform and bottle collection bins, weigh up to 25 lbs. and need to be lifted to a height of 4 feet.
  • Required to carry a case of empty bottles 40 feet, weight of less than 5 lbs., and lifted to a height of 4 feet.

  • Repetitive use of hands:

X Simple grasping: amount of weight > 1 lbs: frequency 10 % of time

X Pushing and pulling: amount of weight > 50 lbs: frequency 5 % of time

X Fine manipulation: amount of weight > 1 lbs: frequency 10 % of time

Describe: Quality testing of bottles requires simple grasping. Computer and HMI screens requires fine manipulation. Using a pallet jack to move gaylords will require pushing and pulling.

  • Vision to monitor machine operations, follow production schedule, complete QC testing.

  • Touch to effectively evaluate bottle quality and preform temperature.
  • Smell to effectively complete sensory of the preforms prior to use.
  • Hearing to effectively communicate as well as monitor machine condition.

Describe: While assisting in other production area, non-toxic odors are present on a limited basis. Light dust is present in most areas of work.

Describe: The machines are mechanical devices powered by electricity. Care should be taken so hands or other body parts are not inserted into a moving machine. Electrical panels will remain locked unless maintenance personnel are present. Pneumatic devices must be bled of air pressure prior to working on them.

  • Ability to stand for an accumulative 10 hour shift.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds on an infrequent basis.
  • Ability to be alert at all times.
  • Basic mathematical and writing skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with other operators, leads and supervisors.
  • Ability to consistently report to work on time.
  • Ability to follow work instructions and work under minimum supervision.
  • Must be able to bend 45 degrees occasionally for up to 30 seconds.
  • Must have good manual dexterity skills for bottle quality evaluation.

Non-mandatory Job Requirements:

Not absolutely required, but will enhance applicant / employee changes for success.

  • Ability to safely operate a forklift.
  • Ability to work well with others in a team setting.
  • High level mechanical skill set.
