Position Summary
Under the close progressing to limited supervision of the Buildings/Grounds Superintendent, this position ensures that locks, doors and security systems at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King (WVHK) comply with provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and applicable fire and safety codes. The incumbent installs, repairs, replaces, re-keys, and adjusts mechanical and electronic locks and electronic access control systems; fabricates and installs related door components and hardware; performs a variety of inspections, adjustments and repairs to buildings and grounds; makes minor repairs such as window glass and/or screen replacements; and performs other maintenance tasks as assigned. The Locksmith-Entry works in member residences and staff-occupied spaces and must interact professionally. The incumbent practices safe shop and field procedures at all times.

45% A. Installation, Repair, Replacement, Re-keying, and Adjustment of Mechanical and Electronic Locks
A1. Install and maintain mortise and key-in-knob locks.
A2. Duplicate keys using hand and automatic key milling machines.
A3. Issue keys using established protocol and maintain records in a computerized key
management system.
A4. Maintain key inventory adequate to meet operational needs.
A5. Replace worn components of locks and cylinders.
A6. Re-pin old and new tumbler locks and cylinders.
A7. Devise and maintain master-subordinate key systems.
A8. Design and implement key code systems.
A9. Make keys by code, impression, or by hand.
A10. Install and maintain hard-wired, battery-powered, and self-energy-generating locksets.
A11. Work with vaults and safes.
A12. Install proximity readers lock sets.
A13. Install/maintain electronic locks with proxy readers.
A14. Open locks by means other than use of normal key.
A15. Investigate, recommend and submit requests for purchase of new and replacement parts needed to perform locksmith tasks.
30% B. Fabrication and Installation of Access Control Systems and Related Door
Components and Hardware
B1. Perform complete door adjustments, including butts, strike plates, and alignment.
B2. Inspect and adjust fire and smoke door latching devices, to ensure proper coordination and operation.
B3. Install and maintain exit devices and panic door hardware.
B4. Install and maintain handicap power door operators.
B5. Install and maintain alarms and video monitoring equipment.
B6. Repair and fabricate parts using shop equipment such as lathes, table saws and drill
presses.
B7. Install, maintain, and repair magnetic door openers and hold open devices.
B8. Program access control system for building and room/area access with all campus
employees.
B9. Assist with management of access control systems from master layouts and installation to end user programming and training.
B10. Work with WVHK supervisors, fellow employees, and outside contractors in the assembling, installation and repair of equipment and components common to listed job duties.
20% C. Performance of other Buildings/Grounds Maintenance Tasks
C1. Install grab bars, patient vision lines, shades and curtains.
C2. Assist Carpenter with installation of new doors, as needed.
C3. Assist Carpenter with small projects, as needed
C4. Operate and maintain electrical, pneumatic and other powered tools and equipment.
C5. Fabricate and/or assemble picture frames and frame pictures, certificates, mementos, etc.
C6. Inspect, repair and maintain windows, screens, skylights, and the supporting hardware.
C7. Assist with snow removal, as requested.
5% D. Performance of other Tasks as Assigned
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $18.49 - $24.95 per hour
Expected hours: 24 – 40 per week
