POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The position’s core duties consist of a variety of public safety work to include routine patrols to provide security and protection of citizens attending the annual Wisconsin State Fair. The Public Safety Officer performs specialty tasks as assigned and other duties necessary to ensure crime prevention at the Wisconsin State Fair Park grounds. The Public Safety Officer provides safety services for special events and performs all assigned duties in support of the Wisconsin State Fair Park, understanding that the positive and effective execution of these duties are instrumental in the process of the Wisconsin State Fair Park’s mission.
This position will primarily be scheduled from 3pm - midnight. :
EMPLOYMENT TYPE:
This position is an unclassified, seasonal Limited Term Employment (LTE) position within the State of Wisconsin employment system. This role will work in a full-time capacity over the 11-day annual Wisconsin State Fair, which includes weekends. There may be additional work hours offered before and/or after the annual fair. Annual hours worked in this position will not exceed 1039 hours.
COMPENSATION:
The starting wage for this role is $15.75 per hour.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Assist sworn law enforcement personnel as directed
- Provides assistance to the public in emergency and non-emergency situations
- Takes appropriate action on matters affecting public safety
- Performs specialized assignments and duties as assigned by the Deputy Chief/ Deputy Director of Public Safety
- Provides regular foot patrol
- Preserves and protects at all times, property from theft and vandalism
- Provides building security
- Assumes responsibility for building access, locking and unlocking doors as necessary
- Responds to situations, including but not limited to, disruptive and/or disorderly incidents, various medical situations and assures that order is maintained
- Inspects, maintains and secures all assigned departmental issued equipment to ensure effective operating conditions are maintained
- Attends mandatory training required for qualification as a Public Safety Officer
- Maintains Public Safety related skills and abilities at an acceptable level
- Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Able to work cooperatively and harmoniously with the public and others
- Interact courteously with all levels of supervision
- Ability to understand and apply department protocols that are applicable to the position
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Proficiency in the use and maintenance of equipment applicable to the position
- Ability to successfully complete all mandatory training requirements applicable to position.
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
Physical and Environmental Demands::
- Regular: Use of both hands and legs, rapid simultaneous mental/muscular coordination, oral communication, hearing, near and far vision, depth perception, color identification and peripheral vision.
- Frequent: Standing, walking, balancing, reaching, repetitive finger movement.
- Occasional: Heavy, moderate and light lifting; carrying, pushing, pulling, grappling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, crawling and running.
- Be able to endure exposure to extreme heat and cold, loud noises, dusty conditions, unsanitary conditions and possible blood borne exposure.
