Wissahickon Brewing Company is an award-winning (World Beer Cup, Best of Philly), family-owned and operated brewery based in Philadelphia, PA. Our original taproom and production facility is located in East Falls, and over the past year we’ve been building out a brand-new taproom in Olde Kensington.
The new location features an open-concept space with a full kitchen, a Wirlybird Coffee shop, a sidewalk café, and an on-site kombucha production area. It’s a dynamic, community-driven space where guests can enjoy authentic, world-class beverages alongside classic Philly food staples.
General Manager Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and passionate General Manager to lead the startup and grand opening of our Olde Kensington taproom, and to oversee daily operations well into the future. This leadership role reports directly to the brewery’s family ownership and works closely with the Executive Chef. The General Manager is responsible for delivering a top-tier guest experience while managing staff, operations, and overall facility upkeep.
Schedule: Full Time, industry hours; exact schedule TBD
Compensation: starting at $60,000/yr including health, vision, & dental benefits, PTO, 401(k). Salary will be based on experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Taproom Operations & Customer Experience
- Deliver an exceptional customer experience by ensuring the taproom is clean, organized, and inviting.
- Uphold taproom policies and procedures related to service, cleanliness, atmosphere, and décor.
- Identify and recommend operational improvements and revenue opportunities to ownership.
- Communicate issues promptly to ownership.
- Develop recipes for specialty craft slushies, hot drinks, and cocktails.
- Perform routine maintenance on bar equipment, including the slushie machine, glass washer, crowler seamer, tap lines, and more.
Staff Leadership & Development
- Manage staff schedules to ensure efficient shift coverage.
- Coach, counsel, and reward staff to maintain a motivated, high-performing team.
- Foster a culture of positivity, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Inventory & Vendor Management
- Maintain accurate records of beer transfers from cold storage to the taproom.
- Update the digital drinks menu, POS system, and online beer store.
- Monitor and restock consumable items; conduct cost analysis for potential savings.
- Evaluate vendor proposals and perform cost comparisons for service providers.
Marketing & Promotions
- Collaborate with marketing to promote events, specials, and new products across media platforms.
- Ensure staff product knowledge for all drinks on tap.
Additional Duties
- Support brewery-related tasks on an as-needed basis.
Qualifications & Requirements
Must-Have Qualifications
- 3 years of industry experience in a bar or restaurant management role.
- ServSafe and RAMP Certifications.
- Team Leadership Experience: Proven ability to lead and manage a team.
- Self-Directed and Reliable: Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication.
- Adaptability: Ability to adjust to shifting priorities quickly.
- Customer-Focused Mindset: Dedicated to providing exceptional customer service.
- Skilled in Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Physical Requirements: Able to lift 60 lbs and stand for up to 8 hours.
- Driver’s License: Valid U.S. driver’s license required.
