Medical Assistant
At the Clinic, Medical Assistant will provide occupational health services in support of the workplace needs of the Department of State employee and trainee workforce at the Blackstone Site. Occupational Health services will be furnished in support of the Department of State and contractor employees at the Blackstone Site, which currently includes 600 Department of State employees on the Blackstone site, with a variable population of up to 750 additional trainees.
Department of State employees complete hard skills training at the Blackstone site to gain experience in detecting surveillance, providing medical care, increasing identification skills for Improvised Explosive Devices ("IED''), and participating in firearms familiarization. and performing defensive/counter-terrorist driving maneuvers. The Clinic has been formed to support this high-risk training for Department of State employees.
Additionally, WJM employees will be tasked with administering audiogram screenings, blood level lab testing, and lead exposure exams.
Responsibilities of the Medical Assistant at the Clinic will include:
Greet patients.
Support the Occupational Health Department.
Prepare exam rooms prior to the patient's arrival.
Obtain the patient's medical record following appropriate procedures.
Check the patient's vital signs, including temperature, respiration, pulse, weight, and blood pressure.
Obtain and document the patient's current medical history, and drug history. chief complaints. allergies and vital signs on the correct Standard Form before the patient is in the exam room.
Assist the provider as needed during exams.
Perform diagnostic procedures when ordered, including EKGs, urine dipsticks, phlebotomy, etc.
Transport patients to other clinical areas as needed.
Check each chart for the provider's signature. Stamp, and each patient’s diagnosis prior to returning the chart to Health Records.
Administer medication to patients as directed.
Obtain lab and x-ray results.
Maintain exam room stock levels and perform routine maintenance of exam rooms. to include dusting, cleaning, and washing basins, etc.
Participate in inventory procedures as directed.
Complete lab and x-ray requisitions in accordance with clinic policies.
Enter demographic data into the computer upon patient check-in; enter diagnosis and departing time when the patient is released.
Answer telephone and transcribe accurate messages.
Ensure that any broken or unsafe equipment is removed from the clinic in a timely manner and notify the appropriate personnel.
Assist with patient flow and give direct patient care as directed.
Operate the following medical equipment, as directed, such as Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor. Hand Held nebulizer. EKG Machine (12 lead). Electronic Thermometer. IV infusion pump (Set-up only), Typanometer.
