The Northside Community Programming and NLLC Residence Coordinator will collaborate with Northside partners to create and support innovative Northside community-related co-curricular programming, support students living in the Northside Residence (Milliken House), facilitate community access to that space, and support faculty teaching NLLC courses.
This three-year position will report to the Director of the Center for Community-Based Learning and will meet at least once per semester with the Provost or his designee.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The qualified candidate for this position will have a bachelor’s degree in any field, along with experience or demonstrated interest in and commitment to sustainability. Experience in residence life in higher education and knowledge of or experience with small, residential liberal arts colleges is highly desired.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate their ability to take initiative, effectively communicate with various constituencies, and collaborate in teams.
While it is not necessary for a successful candidate to possess specialized knowledge of the Northside neighborhood, it will be necessary to acquire that knowledge through activities such as regular attendance at Northside and Cleveland Heights Neighborhood Association Meetings, visits to community partners in the Northside with the Director of the CCBL, and the guidance of the NLLC instructors.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Northside programming will include:
Creating a yearly calendar-of-events intended to bring together Wofford and the Northside
Organizing monthly cohort dinners, ideally with community partners
Co-developing regular community programming that will be required of NLLC students, with the support of the NLLC instructors
Collaborating with Northside partners to develop programming that connects Wofford and the Northside, beyond the construct of the NLLC
Support for students living in the Northside Residence will include:
Participating in monthly Residence Life staff meetings
Overseeing and managing use of the common area/classroom in the Milliken House
Supervising Wofford students living in Milliken house at Northside Station as a live-in staff member
Maintaining Residence Life standards for supervision of Wofford students
Knowing and understanding the rules and regulations governing Residence Life Coordinators at Wofford College and adhering to all rules of conduct governing Residence Life at Wofford College
Support for faculty teaching NLLC courses includes:
Assisting with the NLLC student orientation in late August
Recruiting and managing selection of the 12 students who will make up the next year’s cohort
Ensuring that the co-curricular programming supports faculty learning goals and is integrated with the NLLC courses, including a planning meeting with the instructors in August
