Wolf Trap Animal Rescue is a nonprofit Animal Rescue routinely rescuing 100 young puppies, kittens, and adults every month from kill shelters in Mississippi. We are offering a super rewarding job overseeing and directing our foster program. We are looking for an enthusiastic team member to bring their experience with them!
Role Essential Duties & Primary Job Functions:
- Maintain a clean workspace
- Coordinating and assisting with animal intakes.
- Oversee, manage and develop day-to-day tasks of the Foster Care Program.
- Provide excellent customer service to pet parents and potential fosters as well as adopters.
- Match foster families with appropriate foster animals based on their skills and situation.
- Assure that all foster volunteers receive the necessary training and support to perform their foster care responsibilities
- Provide ongoing assistance, coaching, and moral support to foster families.
- Respond to emails and phone calls from pet and foster parents within a timely manner on workdays.
- Approve or deny foster applications.
- Actively recruit new foster families.
- Maintain an organized, accessible list of foster families, availability, and contact information for all foster families.
- Work directly with the Transport Coordinator in Mississippi to evaluate and identify animals that are candidates for the foster program.
- Work directly with our Director & Veterinarian, Dr. Amber Burton, to determine appropriate medical treatment needed for foster animals.
- Report any foster family concerns to the appropriate staff member.
- Schedule vaccines, spay/neuter, and medication pickup as needed with foster families.
- Maintain and track supplies for foster program.
Oversee pick up and return of foster animals or owner surrenders.
Qualifications and Skills
- Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assisant experience preferred, but not required
- Ability to communicate with the public and co-workers in a professional, pleasant, courteous, tactful, and effective manner at all times.
- Must be able to work independently and be self-motivated.
- Must be in good physical and mental health and have the ability to perform physical activity, including lifting and carrying animals weighing up to 50 pounds for short distances with the help of fellow employees.
- Knowledge of domestic animals including breeds, behavior, appropriate care and housing, common health problems and disease symptoms, in addition to handling techniques is preferred but not required. Allergic condition which would be aggravated through exposure or contact with animals is a disqualification.
- Ability to learn various breed identifications of dogs, cats, other domestic and wild animals.
- The ability to deal with a diverse public on the telephone and in person is required.
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- The ability to work compassionately with animals that may be fractious and possibly attempt to bite or scratch.
- Excellent organizational skills; ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Computer skills in a Windows environment preferred including Word, Excel, Power Point and Pet Point.
