Assistant Director, Individual Giving
Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts seeks an Assistant Director, Individual Giving to be responsible for developing and managing comprehensive fundraising strategies for the Encore Circle (mid-level) membership program of approximately 600 households giving up to $25,000 annually. Also responsible for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding an individual portfolio of 100 donors and prospects.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Donor Cultivation and Solicitation:
- Manage and oversee the strategic acquisition and renewal/upgrading of individuals giving within the Encore Circle membership program, including special appeals and reinstatement campaigns.
- Cultivate and solicit individual donors by developing individualized solicitation strategies; cultivating donor relationships through one-on-one interactions; identifying new prospects; and conducting face to face donor interactions and solicitations.
- Manage development of solicitation communications for the Encore Circle program, including but not limited to traditional print direct mail, electronic communications, and other materials.
- Ensure donor communications include cohesive philanthropic messages, including special projects funding opportunities as they arise.
- Supervise the maintenance and generation of mailing lists for soliciting and stewarding Encore Circle members.
- Strategically collaborate with Leadership Giving, Associates Membership, and other individual giving programs to build a robust donor pipeline to identify and cultivate membership upgrades and major gift prospects.
Donor Relations and Communications:
- Serve as primary liaison to Encore Circle members, and work with Development and Communications and Marketing staff to oversee the schedule and execution of all aspects of the membership experience including advance ticketing, special events, and VIP access and amenities.
- Supervise creation of print and electronic collateral materials/information to support solicitation, stewardship, and cultivation efforts.
- Develop strategy and participate in execution of member cultivation and stewardship events, up to 20 per year.
- Engage with donors throughout the year in one on one meetings, at special events, and in the Encore Circle Lounge (VIP donor lounge) during the summer season.
- Work with the Content Team to develop online communications for donors via members only email and website.
Other:
- Supervise, direct and mentor the Manager, Donor Relations.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent transferrable experience
- Minimum six years’ of development or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated success cultivating, stewarding, and soliciting individual donors face to face
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Professional demeanor and highest standards of integrity in all working and donor relationships
- Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication, and customer service skills
- Strong budgeting skills and ability to measure progress and metrics
- Energetic, team-oriented, enthusiastic and positive in a demanding day-to-day schedule and environment
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and experience with database systems; Experience with Raiser's Edge a plus
- Some knowledge of performing arts industry, particularly non-profit organizations
- Seasonal evening and weekend work required
- Sensitivity and commitment to the mission of Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time
- Regularly operates a computer and other office equipment (i.e. calculator, copier, printer, etc.)
- Regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, bend and reach with arms
- Lift/move up to 10 pounds infrequently
