What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cancer Program Abstractor - Cancer Registry position at Womans Hospital?
Woman's Hospital is seeking a dedicated Cancer Registry Abstractor to support our mission of providing exceptional care. This role involves managing the medical data collection system to ensure compliance with Louisiana State Tumor Registry guidelines and maintaining accurate reporting of all cancer diagnoses. The position is responsible for ensuring the hospital's compliance with American College of Surgeons (ACoS) standards to maintain accreditation, assisting in the preparation of the Woman's Hospital Cancer Annual Report and other specialty reports as needed, and collecting and compiling follow-up and treatment information from physician offices to meet ACoS Commission on Cancer standards. Additional tasks will be performed in alignment with the policies, procedures, and mission of Woman's Hospital.
Requirements:
- Minimum of Associates Degree or graduation from an accredited college or university is preferred.
- ODS-C or ODS eligibility is required within two years of hire.
- Previous experience in tumor registry is preferred. ODS-C or ODS eligibility is required within two years of hire.
Responsibilities:
- Reviews all pathology reports, cytology reports, autopsy reports, and the disease index to determine the appropriate cases to be abstracted for the tumor registry.
- Selects, abstracts, codes, and stages the appropriate cases with reportable diagnoses or malignant neoplasms.
- Assists in the compilation of data retrieval and analysis when necessary (i.e., patient care evaluation studies).
- Assists in preparation for quarterly committee meetings.
- Coordinates Breast Tumor Conferences and GYN Tumor Conferences.

$17.61 - $24.87
