What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nurse Tech - Mother/Baby - PRN (As Needed) position at Womans Hospital?
Woman’s Mother/Baby Unit incorporates the couplet care model to provide exceptional care to postpartum patients and their newborns. Our 84-bed unit focuses on the delivery of safe, quality-driven patient- and family-centered care that is individualized, equitable, and inclusive. Our current nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 RN to 3 couplets (6 patients).
The Nurse Tech supports the nursing staff by performing routine clerical and patient care activities and assigned tasks within the scope of his/her training. Performs other duties as assigned by department management according to policies and procedures and the mission of Woman's Hospital.
Requirements:
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must be enrolled in a registered nurse program at an accredited nursing school
- Must currently be participating in a clinical rotation
- Mother/Baby is currently welcoming December 2026 or after graduates only
Responsibilities of the Nurse Tech position include, but are not limited to:
- Receives report on assigned patients, confers with nurse on plan of care and rounds as directed by RN for the assigned shift.
- Monitors vital signs as outlined in the plan of care and reports deviations from normal values.
- Performs/assists ADLs including feeding of newborns.
- Assists with circumcisions.
- Assist with post-mortem care.
- Inserts indwelling catheters and straight catheters and performs catheter care.
- Empties foleys and colostomies.
- Performs fundal assessments.
- Assists with monitoring of uterine contractions and fetal monitoring.
- Assists with applying of equipment ETCO2 and ECG and incentive spirometer.
- Performs/assists patient with transfers/transports, lifting, turning and positioning, ambulation, and discharges.
- Performs Chlorhexidine bathing pre and post procedure per protocols, vaginal washes as directed, and performs ab-dominal/surgical site preps.
- Performs simple wound care, dressing changes, and removal of dressings.
- Performs point of care testing specific to unit.
- Obtains lab specimens including urine, buccal swabs, nasal swabs, blood as applicable to area.
Hours
PRN; Required to work every other weekend; Saturday/Sunday. Alternating day/evening shifts; 7am-3pm and 3pm-11pm.
Pay
$14.18- $20.03; plus applicable PRN and shift differentials
