What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nursing Assistant - Surgical Care Unit - Full-time - Days/Evenings position at Womans Hospital?

Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- If a high school diploma or equivalent is not available, a CNA certification is required in lieu of the diploma
- Must be cross-trained between unit clerk and nurse aide, previous experience in either is necessary
- Certification for nursing assistant is highly preferred
- Must possess adequate writing and reading skills to perform basic procedures involved in bedside patient care
- Must have knowledge of basic computer skills and organizational skills for reception-type tasks
Responsibilities of the Nursing Assistant position include but are not limited to:
- Identifies and prioritizes nursing/department activities and performs the necessary tasks within a reasonable time frame and on the basis of task priority, reassessing priorities throughout the shift as circumstances warrant
- Carries out delegated patient care activities such as assisting with bathing/dressing, ambulating and transporting patients, preparing patients for surgery, etc., as appropriate and in a timely manner. Maintains patient confidentiality
- Cooperates, supports and is flexible with work assignments; works as a team player. Remains readily available and is accessible to nursing staff. Informs nurse when leaving the unit for errands, and/or breaks. Maintains timely and appropriate work breaks
- Answers telephone promptly, handles inquiries courteously and forwards calls as necessary
- Enters patient information, weights and arrival time to unit into patient chart
- Participates in applicable (job description compatible) unit PI activities
- Enters patient charges onto PAR excellence board and checks sheet with computer print outs. Follows compliance guidelines
- Correctly enters departmental requests into computer when transcribing orders (e.g., lab, therapy, dietary, C/S, etc.)
- Checks and monitors forms as specifically assigned; copying or faxing chart packets. Verifies proper forms on patients' charts
- Checks and monitors unit supplies during shift and restocks as necessary
- Orders nourishments from food service daily and in appropriate quantities. Properly stores nourishments in a timely manner
- Performs specifically assigned duties in a timely and cost-effective manner (e.g., maintaining adequate supply of patient charts, keeping physicians' orders current and notifies guest relations receptionist and volunteers as directed). Credits supplies and medications as warranted
- Admits patient to area according to procedure. Correctly enters patients on SCU/post-op log sheets
- Collects blood, meds, specimens, etc. and sends in tube system as directed by nurse in a timely manner
- Perform other duties assigned by Department management according to policies and procedures and the mission of Woman's Hospital.
Hours
Full-time; Days/Evenings
Monday-Friday; four 10-hour shifts 8am to 6pm (40 hours per week)
Pay
$13.19 - $18.63
