POSITION SUMMARY: This position is part time. This position performs a variety of responsibilities, assisting parents and child witnesses of domestic abuse or child victims of sexual assault seeking services from Women & Children’s Horizons Shelter.
WORK HOURS: We are seeking an individual to work at our shelter and in-person during the day or evening hours.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Two years' experience in crisis/social service agency working with children preferred. Bachelor's degree in social work, elementary education or related field, or equivalent experience.
PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent communication and organizational skills; cultural competence and ability to interact with diverse individuals; excellent interpersonal skills; must demonstrate professionalism with sound judgment and a high degree of responsibility, particularly as it relates to confidentiality.Reliable automobile with insurance and valid driver’s license required.
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Understand and support the mission and purpose of Women and Children’s Horizons.
2. Provide school arrangements for sheltered children. Coordinate to ensure McKinney Vento Act rights are afforded to clients.
3. Communicate and coordinate with school personnel for needs of students and families.
4. Gather data and complete required reporting for the children’s services program’s participants.
5. Coordinate and facilitate children’s programs and activities.
6. Coordinate and facilitate summer program - including children and family activities and field trips. Maintain and update all communications and documentation for events.
7. Facilitate Parenting Classes.
8. Provide referrals to guidance counselors and other appropriate agencies.
9. Supervise all volunteers working within the Children’s Program.
10. Provide emotional support and individual counseling with both non-abusive parent and children receiving services from Women and Children’s Horizons.
11. Assist in training of volunteers/staff on the “Effects of Domestic Abuse on Children.”
12. Maintain/procure all supplies, play areas, etc.
13. Coordinate and prepare holiday activities- including decorations, meal planning, and preparation, and activities for children and families during holiday dinners- work with advocates on shift during the holiday so they can facilitate events and activities.
14. Facilitate groups as needed.
15. Participate in meetings, trainings and workshops as necessary. Cconduct training sessions for staff and volunteers as needed.
16. Attend mandatory staff meetings.
17. Adhere to the organization’s Code of Ethics, Policies and Procedures, and Confidentiality Policies.
18. Perform other duties as assigned.
