What are the responsibilities and job description for the Domestic Violence Shelter Advocate position at Women & Children's Horizons?
Previous experience with a shelter, knowledge about domestic and sexual abuse, and previous experience engaging in trauma informed care desired.
POSITION SUMMARY: These positions are part time. This position performs a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to providing emotional support and info/referral services to shelter residents and their children, answering crisis calls, and managing community living challenges that arise. Population served are victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or human trafficking, and their children.
WORK HOURS: We are seeking individuals to work in person at our shelter. Open shifts include daytime 6:30 am - 2:30 pm weekdays, 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm weekdays or weekends and a Saturday overnight 10:30 pm to 6:30 am. Once hired a schedule would be developed to match open shifts with candidates availability. Schedule would range for 12 to 29 hours per week.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: High school diploma and one year of experience in crisis/social service agency preferred. Some knowledge about domestic and sexual abuse. Bachelor of Science preferred.
PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent communication and organizational skills; cultural sensitivity and ability to interact with various publics; excellent interpersonal skills; must demonstrate professionalism with sound judgment and a high degree of responsibility, particularly as it relates to confidentiality. Reliable automobile with insurance and valid driver’s license required.
