What are the responsibilities and job description for the Advocate position at Women's Resource Center?
JOB REQUIREMENTS : Responsibilities : 1. Work directly with the Director of Bethany Apartments to support the needs and services of the residents and the building. 2. Develop positive relationships with the residents of Bethany Apartments. 3. Assist with the management and security of a 12-unit apartment complex for survivors of domestic violence. 4. Support residents by obtaining item requests from the pantry and storage. 5. Assure that housekeeping tasks in common areas are completed and perform light housekeeping duties for offices and common areas, as needed. 6. Oversee the preparation and furnishing of apartments for new residents, complete the check-in paperwork with new residents. 7. Complete the check-out paperwork for departing residents and oversee the cleaning and removal of items remaining in the apartments upon resident departures. 8. Required to unlock and open the building at the start of the business day. 9. A portion of hours include office duties such as answering the phone, answering the doors, handling incoming donations, sorting donations as requested, and other clerical work. 10. Assist in identifying maintenance needs of the building and scheduling appointments when needed. 11. Willingness to be on a rotating shift of emergency contacts to report to the building after hours. 12. The potential of eventually living onsite, depending on the current needs and structure of the organization. Qualifications and Capabilities : 1. Basic understanding of trauma-informed environments and / or willingness to learn and understand best practices 2. Proven qualities of job dependability and responsibility. 3. Understanding or willingness to learn the needs and special considerations of survivors of domestic violence. 4. Genuine interest in the well-being of women and children; ability to relate well to a variety of people; understanding and appreciation of people with diverse ethnic, racial, religious, sexual orientation, and cultural backgrounds. 5. Conscientious and capable of maintaining strict confidentiality. 6. Clear thinker who will react quickly and appropriately in the event of an emergency. 7. Ability to maintain an atmosphere within the building that fosters the most positive relationships between staff and tenants. 8. Experience in and / or willingness to learn household management and minor repairs. 9. Bilingual English and Spanish speaking candidates are encouraged to apply Keep records or prepare reports for owner or management concerning visits with clients. Visit individuals in homes or attend group meetings to provide information on agency services, requirements, or procedures. Submit reports and review reports or problems with superior. Oversee day-to-day group activities of residents in institution. Meet with youth groups to acquaint them with consequences of delinquent acts. Consult with supervisor concerning programs for individual families. Assist in planning food budgets, using charts or sample budgets. Assist clients with preparation of forms, such as tax or rent forms. Inform tenants of facilities, such as laundries or playgrounds.
