DUTIES:
Conducts phone and in-person interviews with applicants; advises clients or public with questions regarding available assistance programs and Medicaid; provides customer service; explains program requirements and benefits as established by the federal, state and County office; completes or assists with completing applications and re-certifications; makes referrals to other agencies and programs.
Prepares and maintains case records; reevaluates benefit issuance based on information reported and verified by client and other government agencies; verifies documentation; reviews and evaluates budgets to ensure correct allotment and issuance of benefits; approves or denies applications within the established timeframes according to policy; prepares and submits notification letters; makes corrections in case records as identified by quality control to maintain accuracy.
Communicates with other government and community agencies along with employers, landlords and service providers.
Processes reports and alerts to ensure clients remain eligible for benefits.
Reviews cases of overpayments and under issuance of benefits; conducts client interviews, collects evidence; prepares documentation; determines if agency made an error or if client failed to meet reporting responsibilities; presents collected evidence on behalf of the Agency to the State Hearing Officer or others as needed; makes corrections as needed or directed.
Receives notice of possible erroneous issuance of benefits on a case; researches cases to determine cause of error; calculates the amount of erroneous benefits that were issued.
Receives notice of reports regarding income, resources, and demographics of cases; updates case information as needed; requests necessary verification by mail; contacts client, authorized representative, coroner’s office, Department of Corrections, etc. to obtain verbal verification.
Prepares and processes a variety of documentation associated with unit operations within designated timeframes and per established procedures; receives, reviews, records, types, mails, and/or distributes documentation, such as applications, hearing requests, packets, budgets, referrals, and various alerts, reports, checklists, letters, notices, forms, etc.; enters data into computer systems; logs, tracks, or updates records; and files, maintains, and stores hardcopy records.
Attends meetings and trainings to remain current on program changes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Associate degree in social work, psychology or sociology or related field required; supplemented by two years of experience in customer service, administrative work or similar in a public assistance or agency related setting; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Valid driver’s license preferred.
