GENERAL FUNCTION
Assists various departments and entities with building projects, repairs, and maintenance functions. Performs landscaping, grounds maintenance, and brushing assignments. Responds to emergency situations that include severe weather warnings, flooding, etc.
RESPONSIBILITIES
A. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. When work crews are assigned, provide necessary transportation to and from work sites. Monitor and work directly with workers on assigned projects. Instruct the workers in the proper and safe use of tools and equipment and ensure proper safety equipment is issued and worn.
2. Work with municipalities (townships, villages and cities) and various county and city agencies on projects throughout Wood County, as requested. Projects consist of refurbishing town halls, building furniture, painting office equipment, erecting buildings, brushing roadways, special event set-up, etc.
3. Assist Parks in Perform year-round routine, general maintenance functions of assigned facilities, and outdoor recreational areas. May include, but not limited to:
5. Responsible to know and practice the Safety policies of the County. Perform all job tasks in a safe and prescribed manner.
6. Perform various landscaping-related duties; including mowing grass, weeding, tree trimming or removal, planting trees, flowers and shrubs, vegetation control, snow plowing and removal, cemetery grounds upkeep, etc.
7. Install and replace BNI signs in municipalities.
8. Complete weekly Riverblock and Courthouse recycling.
9. Complete weekly deliveries of paper, envelopes, tissue etc. to departments from the Maintenance Department.
10. Successfully complete all required training programs.
B. OTHER JOB DUTIES
1. Participate in daily and weekend on-call schedules, during the time period March through September, for immediate response to emergencies of any and all kinds involving the Emergency Management office, including, without limitation, flooding, severe weather warnings, etc.
2. Perform daily mail pickup as needed for the County.
3. Any other duties as may be assigned.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school, or its equivalent, supplemented by verifiable work in a related field for at least three (3) years is required. Mechanical background preferred. Knowledge of basic office procedures and safety procedures required. Valid Wisconsin Driver’s license is required. Basic, everyday living skills are needed, as is the ability to understand and follow oral and written directions, as well as give instructions. Reading, writing, adding and subtracting is needed to complete forms, read manuals, and make calculations when working on projects.
During employment with Wood County, certifications in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and Hazardous Materials Awareness Level are required and maintained.
Equipment used to perform the essential duties of the job: copy machine, camera, two-way radio, hand tools (hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers, chainsaws, shovels, brooms, brush saws, etc.), truck, van, tractor, maintenance equipment (cement mixer, air hammer, material handling equipment, wood splitter, mower, snow plow, etc.). Personal protective equipment used: breathing apparatus, hearing and eye protection, chainsaw chaps, etc.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This position requires the ability to regularly spend long hours standing, walking, talking, hearing, using near and far vision, low lifting (10 pounds or less), medium lifting (20-40 pounds), and high lifting (50-80 pounds). This position requires time sitting, stooping, climbing, (using legs, feet and arms for support; ascending or descending stairs, steps or short stepladders, walking up or down hills; going up or down long ladders, poles, scaffolding, trees, walls or machines bending/twisting, reaching, very high lifting (objects weighing 100 pounds or more), low carrying (10 pounds or less), medium carrying (20-40 pounds), high carrying (50-80 pounds), and very high carrying (100 pounds or more); low pushing/pulling (10 pounds or less), medium pushing/pulling (pulling or pushing a cart or wheelbarrow with a load of 60-80 pounds), high pushing/pulling (pulling or pushing a cart with a load of 100 pounds; dragging objects weighing 60 pounds over loose soil), very high pushing/pulling (dragging objects weighing more than 100 pounds over uneven ground; rolling (filled 50 gallon drums up a ramp), low handling (picking up tools), medium handling (operate controls in a vehicle), low use of fingers (writing, holding a nail), medium use of fingers (operating hand tools), high use of fingers (solder small components together).
