Medical Assistant Float, Full-Time Days

In accordance with the mission of Wood Health Company, the Medical Assistant (MA) will provide clinical and administrative support in a medical office setting, under the direction of the physician and office manager/coordinator. The Medical Assistant is accountable for the delivery of patient care utilizing the nursing process within the standards, policies, procedures and guidelines of the organization.

MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Assist physician or provider with patient assessment, examinations and treatments. 2. Set-up for various procedures and assists the physician or provider in treatments such as surgical procedures, pelvic exams, and other medical modalities. 2. Documents patient care observations and activities according to professional standards and procedures. 3. Correctly collects and accurately labels specimens when doing venipuncture and other specimen collections. 4. Gives routine injections under the direction and supervision of a provider, as appropriate with level of training and/or certification. 5. Triages patient phones calls, in accordance with office policy. 6. Introduces him/herself to the patient. 7. Promptly responds to patient phone calls and concerns. 8. Telephones/faxes prescriptions under the direction of a physician or provider. 9. Assists in emergency situations under the direction of the physician or provider. 10. Obtains specimens (i.e. throat, urine, wound, etc) using proper technique and following policy and protocol for labeling. 11. Performs CLIA waived testing, EKG’s, and other testing within the scope of practice and under the supervision of a physician or provider. 12. Maintain a clean, well-stocked patient care area, observing techniques and all other federal mandates, (i.e. OSHA, CLIA). 13. May pull charts for current day patients. 14. May check or recheck insurance information. 15. Accurately files charts. 16. Performs pre-certification/prior authorization when necessary. 17. Cleans equipment efficiently; performs routine maintenance. 18. Orders medical supplies according to office policy. 19. Maintains current knowledge and skills in clinical practice. 20. Contributes in identifying methods of improving patient care. 21. Other duties as assigned. EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program with certification or registry. • Demonstrates effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. • Current CPR certification. • Customer service-oriented attitude/behavior. • Demonstrates skill and abilities in clinical and administrative areas including office lab testing, patient care skills, diagnostic testing and phlebotomy in some settings. • Ability to work with limited supervision and to make decisions based on established policies and procedures.
