We are a stand-alone, not for profit and faith based community. We’re looking for a compassionate and skilled cook to join our team and help us serve wholesome, homemade meals that bring comfort and joy to our residents.
As a Cook in our retirement community, you will be responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, well-balanced meals to our residents while maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for cooking, experience in food preparation, and a caring attitude toward older adults.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook meals according to set recipes and dietary guidelines.
- Ensure food is prepared and served on time, with attention to presentation and quality.
- Follow proper food handling, sanitation, and safety procedures at all times.
- Work closely with the dietary team to accommodate residents’ special dietary needs and preferences.
- Assist with meal planning and inventory management.
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, including regular cleaning and sanitizing.
- Communicate effectively with team members, residents, and management.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in cooking or food preparation, preferably in a healthcare or senior living setting.
- Knowledge of food safety standards and dietary needs of older adults.
- Ability to follow recipes and adjust meals for dietary restrictions.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Ability to work well in a team and a positive attitude.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to lift, bend, and carry up to 50 lbs, as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1 year geriatric long-term care/hospital cooking experience required
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Certification in food safety, sanitation, ServeSave, or culinary arts is a plus. We will train candidates with experience
- Experience with large-scale meal preparation and catering
- Knowledge of specialized diets, such as low-sodium, mechanically altered, diabetic, or therapeutic diets
- Ability to be accurate, concise, and detail-oriented
