Description
SUMMARY
The Art and Craft Instructor will instruct school age and adult art and craft programs. The Art and Craft Instructor will be prepared, creative and energized while providing a safe learning environment. The program curriculum is flexible and can be developed by the instructor in collaboration with the Program Coordinator. Program dates are also flexible but will include providing programs during school breaks to elementary aged children.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. In collaboration with the Program Coordinator, develop dynamic and engaging curriculum based on expertise and skillset. Instruct all program participants on developed curriculum.
2. Set up all equipment necessary in advance of program start.
3. Communicate effectively with registered participants.
4. Communicate effectively with Program Coordinator, including making recommendations for purchases of equipment and supplies.
5. Assist in marketing efforts to increase awareness of the program instructed and other programs offered by the City of Woodland Park.
6. Maintain a safe and inclusive environment for program participants.
7. Maintain a positive attitude, take initiative, and works as a cohesive team with all staff members to ensure efficiency and camaraderie.
8. Responds to accidents or incidents according to procedures. Effectively handles emergency situations that require CPR and First Aid.
9. Upholds City and Department policies and procedures as well as applicable laws.
10. Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
11. Participates in all training(s) and staff meetings as required.
12. Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of the Program Coordinator and direct supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
1. High School Diploma or GED.
2. Previous experience working with elementary age participants in group activity setting
3. Prior experience teaching community-based programs preferred
4. Comprehensive knowledge of art; experience with activity design preferred
5. Must possess or be able to obtain First Aid, CPR and AED Certifications.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
2. Ability to perform multiple functions at once.
3. Knowledge of the philosophy, principles, and practices of positive interaction with children and parents.
4. Knowledge of visual arts elements, mediums, techniques, and art appreciation.
5. Ability to provide proper instruction using both verbal description and physical demonstration.
6. Ability to visually monitor participants and adjust class project based on general ability level of class.
7. Ability to handle the public in a friendly and professional manner.
8. The patience and demeanor required to work with varying personalities and abilities.
9. Outstanding customer service and interpersonal communication skills, to maintain effective working relationships with citizens, city staff, and volunteers.
10. Ability to work independently.
11. Basic Spanish language skills, a plus

Various art equipment and computers, software packages, telephones, facsimile machines, copy machine, printers, small hand tools, and other various equipment.
