What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp After-Care Counselor position at Woodland Playhouse?
We are a small play-based, experiential all-outdoor camp located in The Catskills looking for Camp Counselors to engage with campers across a variety of ages. We run a variety of camps for children aged 2-5, 4-8, 5-10, and 6-12. While safety is always the most important part of your job, engaging in positive interactions and having fun with the campers is a close second. This particular position is for an after-care role. Many families need extended day care for their children beyond the 2pm closing time of many of our camps. This position runs 1:30-5:30 M-F from June 30th through August 8th. Holiday closures or camp closures due to weather are paid days off.
Responsibilities
- Work with your fellow counselors to plan outdoor activities for groups of campers
- Lead recreational and educational activities (such as crafting, hiking, or putting on a play)
- Escort and oversee children
- Educate campers through games and explorations
- Support children finding resolutions to disagreements and address behavioral issues
- Make sure all safety rules are followed
- Ensure camp site is clean and that campers don’t litter recreational areas or nature
- Perform first aid or take care of injuries as needed
- Keep accurate incident, attendance, and fire drill logs
- Check in with parents and caregivers at pickup time
- Communicate any concerns or problems to both the camp lead and camp director at the end of each day.
Skills
- Proven experience as Camp Counselor or similar role working with children
- Familiarity with camping, hiking, and/or various outdoor activities
- Patient and reliable
- Organizational and communication skills
- A love for children
- Energetic and positive personality
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (strength and stamina to follow strenuous activities like hiking, running, crouching or carrying children)
- Ability to effectively and efficiently communicate with parents on a day-to-day basis.
- First aid- and CPR-certified required (willing to train the right candidate).
Job Types: Part-time, Contract
Pay: From $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 per week
