Benefits:  Position alone does not qualify for health benefit, but hours worked count toward 630 hour requirement.  Position is eligible for retirement through the WA State Department of Retirement Systems.

Job Summary: The LAP or Title paraeducator carries out remediation activities for students in the Learning Assistance Program (LAP) or Title Program under the direction of a certificated teacher. They provide one-on-one or small group instruction; assist with classroom management; provide assistance in a computer laboratory; provide support in a library or media center; or provide instructional services to students under the direct supervision of a teacher. The work assists toward the accomplishment of the mission of the Woodland Public Schools of preparing students for career, life, and college so that they can become a responsible and successful citizen. Work is performed under the direction of the principal.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Required to have completed one of the following requirement: Either (1) documentation to support an Associate’s Degree or transcripts to verify the comparable equivalence (i.e. 72 college quarter credits or 48 semester credits from an accredited university, college, community college or business school), or (2) ETS ParaPro Assessment with a passing score of 455 (this can be taken at ESD 112 or at Lower Columbia College), (3) The Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program: 65% or (4) Completed a Paraeducator II Apprenticeship Program.

• Ability to learn and use a computer monitor, keyboard, and appropriate adaptive technologies
• Ability to successfully implement educational programs and manage student behavior with direction from the classroom teacher(s)

• Ability to move, physically restrain a student as needed
• Ability to independently and safely escort students around the school building and grounds
• Ability to observe the behavior of students, both visually and by listening and to communicate those observations with other appropriate service providers
• Para-Educator Core Competencies required by the State of Washington preferred-need to complete this within the first year after being hired if not previously completed
