Woodmont Recreation Association is currently seeking a summer Assistant Swim Coach to help our young athletes grow and develop their swimming skills, and to cultivate a supportive environment that encourages good sportsmanship, fostering a sense of team and community. The Assistant Coach helps the Head Coach oversee the summer swim team, including practice sessions and swim meets, meet preparation and seeding, assists with planning meet theme nights and attends the team awards dinner and other social and team-building events. The season begins in mid-May and runs through the mid-July. The team has approximately 100 athletes from the ages of 5-18 and is part of a strong, supportive neighborhood and community in Bon Air, Virginia.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist the Head Coach with all aspects of the swim season to include assisting with planning and oversight of scheduled practices, meets, and championship meet; attending and participating in team awards dinner, and other social and team-building events throughout the season.
- Assist with coordinating senior swimmers as volunteer coaches for the younger swimmers.
- Assist with seeding meet events and championship meet events following all league rules.
- Work collaboratively and collegially with the Head Coach, other Assistant Coach(es), volunteers, parents, and the aquatics committee to ensure a successful season.
- Provide a positive, encouraging, and challenging atmosphere in which all swimmers, regardless of ability, may improve their skills to the best of their ability.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience as a volunteer or assistant swim coach, or other similar youth sports coach experience.
- Current lifeguard certification.
- Summer league swim and/or year-round competitive swim experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively and in a timely fashion.
