What are the responsibilities and job description for the STARTER RANGER position at Woodridge Park District?
Job Summary
The Ranger is responsible for helping control pace of play on the golf course and assisting players as necessary. Responsibilities may also include informing golfers on the rules of the course, on-course safety and etiquette, and the expected duration of playing time.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily and demonstrate the Districts core competencies consisting of financial accountability, integrity/ethics, job knowledge, policies & procedures compliance, work quality, risk management/safety, District/Department vision and values, adaptability/flexibility, dependability, teamwork, interpersonal skills, and productivity.
Essential Duties
- Observe on-course pace of play and coordinates pace of play with starter and other rangers.
- Request slower playing groups to speed up pace, if appropriate. See attached sheet about observing pace of play.
- Assist golfers with information that may help them play the course such as local rules, yardage markers, location of rest stations, areas to avoid with carts, etc.
- Remind golfers to replace divots, repair ball marks, and rake sand traps.
- Monitor on-course activities and report all infractions to Starter.
- Continually monitor the pace of play to see what groups are falling behind. Keep in mind it may be a walking group holding up play and not the group in the carts.
- Assist golf shop staff in preparing for and running tournaments, clinics and other special events.
- Watch to see if forecaddies are performing correctly. One on each side of the fairway if there are two in the group. Forecaddies should not be on the tee with the guests.
- Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.
Customer Service
- Maintain knowledge of emergency procedures, location of emergency equipment, and reporting procedures. Provide emergency assistance to golfers and other guests as necessary according to company procedures.
- Be ready and enthusiastic to help or assist our members and guests in any way you can.
- Understand Village Greens products and services.
- Handle service problems politely and efficiently while following established procedures.
- Be available for customers and enforce golf course procedures in a professional manner
Appearance
- Wear proper staff uniform at all times including name tag.
Cooperation & Attitude
- Display a positive attitude and work as part of the golf course team.
Communication
- Advise supervisor of any complaints as soon as they occur.
- Communicate well with customers, staff, members, and management.
- Use appropriate time keeping method/system to accurately record time worked in accordance with policy/procedure.
Pay Range
- $15.00 per hour
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and demonstrate the competencies listed above in addition to the following:
- Familiarity with rules of golf and golf course etiquette.
- Experience in the golf industry preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to use two-way radio for communication as well.
- Ability to visually inspect all work areas, golf course and grounds
- Ability to see players on the golf course, and to follow the flight of golf balls
- Ability to retrieve, read, and interpret information from technological resources.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills to effectively perform and prioritize job responsibilities.
- Ability to effectively adjust to stressful situations.
- Ability to work effectively with the general public, cooperating agencies, businesses, organizations, civic groups, and park district employees.
- Ability to read, understand, remember, and interpret routine documents such as safety rules as well as communicate information therein.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondences and to speak effectively before groups of participants or employees of the organization.
- Ability to understand, remember, and apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
- Ability to identify and respond quickly to emergency situations.
- Ability to effectively problem solve and adapt to change.
Education & Training
- Minimum of a High School diploma or GED preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Valid drivers license is required for driving carts.
