POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Gymnastics Director and in accordance with the policies of the WOODSON YMCA, the Gymnastics Coach is responsible for delivering high-quality gymnastics instruction in a safe, supportive, and values-driven environment. This position plays a key role in both hands-on coaching and overall program support, working with athletes of varying skill levels to promote physical development, confidence, and a love for the sport. The Gymnastics Coach helps ensure that all programming aligns with the YMCA’s mission and core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Teach gymnastics skills in a safe, age-appropriate, and progressive way.
• Create lesson plans and training routines based on athletes' skill levels.
• Spot athletes properly to prevent injury and ensure safety.
• Prepare gymnasts for competitions, including routines and meet support.
• Provide positive, individualized feedback to help athletes grow.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized gym environment.
• Communicate regularly with athletes, parents, and program staff.
• Promote teamwork, confidence, and respect among gymnasts.
• Follow YMCA policies and complete all required safety training.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of 2 years of experience coaching gymnastics at a competitive or recreational level.
• Previous experience in program management, administration, or leadership roles is a plus.
• USAG Competitive Coaching Membership, Certificates in Safe Sport, and USAG Safety & Risk Management within a designated time frame.
• First Aid, CPR, and AED certification required or must be obtained within a designated time frame.
• Strong knowledge of gymnastics techniques, drills, and safety practices. Including USA Gymnastics Programs (Jr Olympic Compulsory and Optional Code of Points) as well as strength and conditioning principles related to gymnastics.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to motivate and inspire athletes of varying abilities.
• Ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and athletes.
• Organizational skills to assist with program administration and event planning.
• Passion for gymnastics and youth development.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by training schedules and competitions.

• Must be able to stand for 3 hours continuously.
• The work is performed indoors and the noise level is moderate to loud.
• Will be required to stoop and spot gymnastics skills.
