What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Inclusion Teacher position at Woonsocket High School?
Function: The Inclusion Teacher must provide a learning environment that is both stimulating and sensitive to the needs of children with a variety of strengths and weaknesses. This model will have a maximum of 15 regular and 10 special education students and a co-teaching collaborative function.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide learning activities to all children that are appropriate to their levels.
Work with a special education teacher in a co-teaching model.
Provide supervision and guidance to a teacher assistant assigned to the class.
Confer with other teachers about appropriate follow-up programming for these children.
Meet with parents to disclose individual student progress.
Work cooperatively with other professionals, including related service providers, Chapter 1 teachers, Chapter 1 counselors, and special education staff, to meet the needs of the students.
Attend regularly scheduled meetings regarding individual students and programming issues.
Work with the special educator to prepare an individualized education program (IEP) suited to the needs of each child.
Work with the special educator to establish educational goals and objectives for each student in an IEP consistent with state education regulations.
Evaluate pupils' academic and social growth and keep appropriate records of such informal assessments.
Identify pupils’ needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
Work closely with educational and service agencies in the community to make referrals necessary to ensure the welfare of pupils.
Provide support and counseling to parents and/or guardians as needed.
Select and requisition books, instructional aids, instructional supplies, and equipment.
Assume other related duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications:
RIDE certification in 9-12 Special Education
RIDE certification in a content area (English, Math, Social Studies, or Science) preferred
The applicant should have successfully supervised student teaching experiences in special education.
Experience as a teacher of students with special needs.
Preferably experienced in utilizing cooperative learning techniques.
Preferably experienced in whole language literacy-based programming.
MLL/ESL RIDE certification preferred
