JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Marketing Operations & Technology team within University Marketing & Communications is looking for a motivated, detail-oriented, Jr Web Developer to assist our lead developer with web development in Drupal, WordPress, and other web projects mostly with PHP in the backend.
Under the direction of the Web Developer III and the Web Development Manager, you will maintain and enhance the university's website (Drupal) and provide web development support for other web projects as necessary.
You must have a passion for web development, be comfortable working with both back-end and front-end technologies and eager to learn and expand your coding skills.
The right candidate must also be willing to learn about web accessibility, how to develop code that ensures the WPI website is accessible to all users and implement new web accessibility guidelines.

JOB DESCRIPTION
- Develop and maintain websites using HTML/CSS/JavaScript/PHP
- Write clean, well-organized, maintainable, efficient and fully documented code
- Ensure code meets responsive coding standards for desktop, tablet, and mobile devices
- Evaluate code to ensure that it is valid; properly structured, meets industry and project standards
- Ensure code is compatible with modern browsers and operating systems
- Develop Drupal modules that enhance website functionality using PHP
- Participate in peer code reviews
- Research and evaluate solutions, features, and related technologies to fulfill project requirements
- Test features to ensure proper functionality
- Write user and developer facing documentation
- Ensure website is complaint with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
- Update Drupal CMS content as necessary
- Troubleshoot website errors and issues
- Other duties as necessary
- Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, information technology, or equivalent area of study or professional experience
- 1-3 years of experience
- Backend web development experience with PHP and MySQL
- Knowledge of CSS, SCSS, HTML, JavaScript/jQuery
- Strong knowledge of newest HTML and CSS standards & preprocessors, such as SCSS
- Understanding of mobile and responsive web design
- Familiarity with object-oriented PHP programming
- Familiarity with code versioning and repositories (e.g. Git)
- Comfortable with reading API documentation
- Understanding of agile development methodologies
- Understanding of accessibility standards and best practices
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively within a team environment
- An ability to take initiative and work with limited direction
- Willingness to learn and adapt quickly
- Willingness to learn new technologies
- Excellent time management, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Team-player
Great to have, yet not required:
- Experience with web content management systems such as Drupal or WordPress.
- Experience with continuous integrations and deployment. (GitLab is a plus)
- Experience with CSS Frameworks (example: Zurb Foundation, Bootstrap)
- Experience with cross-browser and cross-platform testing
- Familiarity with Laravel PHP framework
