Supervisor : Eric Hansen Position Type: Non-Supervisory Schedule: 6:30am to 12:00pm
General Statement of Duties
Assist with painting of the dorms between May and August.
Responsibilities
Prepares surfaces for painting or finishing by scraping, sanding, washing, or otherwise removing dirt, grease, old finishes and rust scale. Removes paint from surfaces by using sanders, scrapers, wire brushes and paint and varnish removers. In preparation for painting, makes minor repairs in plaster, sheetrock, metal, wood and masonry surfaces by filling with materials, such as putty, caulks, fiberglass, resin and epoxy. Applies primers, sealers, stains, and undercoats with brushes, rollers, or spray-painting equipment and striping machines. Paints machinery, piping, floors, ceilings and walls. Moves furniture and places protective drop cloths, and tapes baseboards, glass and other surfaces when needed. While observing safety requirements, cleans brushes, rollers, spray and other painting equipment with water, solvent, thinner or other appropriate cleaners to keep equipment and tools in good working condition. Installs, works from, and removes scaffolding, stages, planks, ladders, jacks, and other work platforms. Loads and unloads materials and supplies. Knows and complies with health and safety regulations specific to the work actions by reviewing Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) instructions as well as performing a job hazard assessment with Campus' Health and Safety Officer. Uses appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required for each work assignment.
Requirements
Prior painting experience a plus. Ability to work with out immediate supervision. Ability to work from a ladder. The ability to lift and carry heavy objects, up to 50 pounds. The ability to stand for extended periods of time and perform repetitive push and pull motions for extended periods of time.
