LITERACY COACH POSITION
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced credentialed teacher to join our innovative literacy program as a Literacy Coach. This position supports Work ED’s mission to transform education through wraparound services and evidence-based literacy instruction, helping to create pathways to prosperity for students in the Fresno area.
LITERACY COACH ROLE DESCRIPTION
As a Literacy Coach, you will play pivotal role in:
- Enhancing student literacy development by implementing evidence-based instructional strategies.
- Empowering and developing non-credentialed tutors through coaching, mentorship, and professional guidance.
- Driving meaningful educational outcomes for Fresno students by fostering strong foundational literacy skills.
- Contributing to an innovative educational initiative dedicated to transforming literacy instruction and student success.
POSITION DETAILS
Supporting our team as a Literacy Coach in Fresno, CA:
- Employment Type: Part-Time; Hourly
- Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week during regular school hours
- Location: Fresno County, California
- Compensation: $50 an hour
Must be available during regular school hours
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership, supervision, and coaching to a team of three non-credentialed tutors, ensuring effective instructional delivery.
- Implement and oversee an evidence-based foundational literacy program to support student learning outcomes.
- Monitor student progress, assess learning needs, and adjust instructional strategies accordingly to enhance literacy development.
- Offer real-time feedback and ongoing support to tutors during literacy sessions to maintain instructional effectiveness.
- Design and facilitate professional development sessions to enhance tutors' instructional skills and best practices.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to align literacy support with core curriculum and instructional goals.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret student performance data to inform instructional decisions and improve learning outcomes.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that encourages student engagement and academic growth.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid California Teaching Credential with demonstrated expertise in instructional best practices.
- Minimum of three years of classroom teaching experience, preferably with a focus on literacy instruction.
- Proven background in literacy instruction and reading intervention, with a deep understanding of foundational reading skills.
- Experience implementing evidence-based reading instruction methodologies to support diverse learners.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with educators and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and develop instructional staff to enhance teaching effectiveness.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic educational setting.
- Must submit a Background Check.
DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS
- Reading Specialist Credential, demonstrating advanced expertise in literacy instruction and intervention.
- Proven experience working with diverse student populations, adapting instruction to meet varied learning needs.
- Strong background in literacy intervention programs, with a focus on evidence-based strategies for student success.
- Experience in adult training and professional development, with the ability to mentor and support educators effectively.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English, enhancing communication and engagement with diverse communities.
