POSITION SUMMARY : The Employment Specialist plays a vital role in supporting adults with disabilities by assisting them in developing job readiness skills, finding meaningful employment, and transitioning successfully into the workforce. This role includes facilitating pre-employment training, providing on-the-job support, and fostering relationships with local employers and community organizations. The position also involves collaboration with partners such as the Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) and Far Northern Regional Center (FNRC) to ensure comprehensive support for clients.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Pre-Employment Training
- Design and facilitate pre-employment classes on topics such as résumé writing, interview techniques, communication skills, workplace etiquette, and time management.
- Conduct assessments to evaluate clients’ skills, interests, and employment barriers, tailoring training plans accordingly.
- Provide hands-on activities and simulations to enhance learning.
On-the-Job Support
Provide on-the-job training, coaching, and interventions to ensure successful transitions into employment.Work with employers to implement workplace accommodations and resolve employment-related issues.Arrange and participate in job team meetings when placement or employment issues arise.Case Management and Collaboration
Maintain accurate records of client progress, class attendance, and job placements.Participate in case conferences, advocate for clients’ rights, and contribute to individualized program plans.Partner with agencies, community organizations, and service providers to support client success.ADDITIONAL DUTIES :
Assist clients in securing transportation to and from job sites, as needed.Support team members, contribute to the overall goals of the organization, and perform other duties as assigned by the Community Employment Coordinator, Director of Client Services, or Executive Director.PHYSICAL DEMANDS : The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job.
Employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, lift, twist, use hands, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and see and hear and communicate with sufficient acuity to successfully perform all aspects of the job.Employee may be required to stand for the majority of an eight (8) hour shift.Employee must be able to demonstrate manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination and perform simple grasping and fine manipulation.Employee must be able to safely lift and / or carry up to 25 pounds.The employee must be able to travel over uneven terrain in an outdoor setting.The employee may be required to work in an environment that may include inclement weather and extreme heat and / or cold.A reasonable accommodation will be made as outlined by law. High school diploma or equivalent and / or any combination of education, knowledge, and / or skills, equal to a minimum of two years’ experience working in a variety of employment work settings.A minimum of two years directly related experience working with persons with developmental and physical disabilities.Must possess a valid California Driver’s License and ability to maintain a clear DMV to be insurable by the Work Training Center’s carrier.Must have intermediate computer PC experience and / or a willingness to obtain knowledge of ADP, Case Magic, and Microsoft Office Suites (Word, Excel, OneDrive, Teams, etc.).Must pass drug screen analysis.Commitment to the Work Training Center and its mission and the ability to work as a team member and represent Community Employment Services in a professional manner.Ability and willingness to work varied hours (overtime, split shifts, evenings, and / or weekends, as assigned).May require specialized skills, licenses, or certification depending on worksite assignment.Adherence to established dress standards.Must be 18 years or olderPREFER OR WILLINGNESS TO ACQUIRE :
Willing to learn a variety of occupational skills.Current First Aid and CPR certificate or the ability to obtain certification.Recommend inoculation for Hepatitis B.Regular Part-Time position. Varied hours including : overtime, split shifts, evenings, and / or weekends, as assigned.
