Position: Controller
Location: Grand Rapids, MI
Responsibilities:
This position will be responsible for managing the company's financial operations, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance with some regulatory requirements. This includes overseeing accounting processes, including payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable, while implementing and maintaining internal controls to safeguard company assets. The role involves coordinating with external auditors and tax advisors to ensure compliance with state-specific tax laws and regulations. Additionally, this role will be relied upon to provide strategic financial insights to support business growth and decision-making.
Here’s what you’ll be doing:
- Assist in the preparation and publishing of financial statements, budgets, and other reports.
- Manage all aspects of the general ledger, including payroll and monthly reconciliations
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Reconcile any type of ACH or wire transfer payment received/sent
- Responsible for payroll tax filings and payments on a quarterly and annual basis
- Monitor daily cash balances to ensure requirements are met
- Review and monitor the preparation of the weekly payroll for Workbox workers, and bi-weekly payroll for Tall Brown Dog employees
- Assist 401(k) compliance filings
- Assist with contract renewals including office leases

Experience:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business (Accounting major desired). MBA or Master’s degree in accounting is preferred. CPA preferred.
- Experience: 2 or more years of experience working in a finance or accounting role is required.
Technology Proficiency:
- Proven experience with accounting software (Quickbooks)
- Experience with Google, Microsoft Office
- Quickbooks Desktop experience preferred
- SAP Concur experience preferred
