Position Summary
The Accountant will report directly to the CEO and will work closely with the Senior Accountant and other fiscal staff. The Accountant is required to maintain a collaborative and professional working relationship with all internal staff, as well as external partners and grant providers. The Accountant will provide oversight of support staff activities within the department.
Payroll Responsibilities
- Enters, maintains, and/or processes information in the payroll system
- Ensures proper processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, and other deductions; forwards appropriate reports and payments for deductions including, but not limited to, child support, insurance, garnishments, etc.
- Reconciles payroll to the general ledger and monthly bank statements.
- Issues, or reissues, physical or replacement checks or direct deposits due to payroll errors or final discharge.
- Records, reviews and processes federal and state payroll tax deposits; ensures timely payment of payroll and corporate taxes.
- Verifies employee records and consults with appropriate department in the event of a discrepancy.
- Prepare and initiate electronic fund transfers to the federal and state depositories to cover withholdings.
- Prepare and review for accuracy W-2 and ACA forms for employees, ACA reports, and 1099 forms for vendors as mandated by law and distributes per law.
- Review, maintain, and organize departmental payroll data; retains records
- Responsible for posting of payments, verifying payments and deposits.
- Ensure that documents are properly authorized.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Oversight of the fiscal support staff
- Assists in the recruitment and hiring of fiscal support staff
- Conducts performance evaluations
- Coordinates the onboarding and training of new fiscal support staff and assists in the identification of current staff training needs.
Other Duties/Responsibilities
- Oversee the general accounting functions, including but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, bank reconciliation, credit card expense reconciliation, payroll and taxes.
- Responsible for delivering timely and accurate financial processing, month end close, cash management reports, and balance sheet reconciliation
- Responsible for cash management, including performing international wire transfers, ACH payments, and maintaining lines of credit
- Maintain professional banking relationships
- Manage staff credit cards; process requests for staff credit cards; assign credit limits
- Manages program gas and incentive cards including receipt of cards, distribution of cards, staff management of cards, inventory of cards, etc.
- Assure fiscal records are maintained to comply with record retention requirements
- Maintains internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions and budget preparation.
- Assists with quarterly and year-end financial audit activities and the annual organizational financial audits.
- Manages the ordering of supplies and participant support needs.
- Maintains sufficient funds by forecasting cash requirements and obligations
- Assists in preparation of grant reports, financial forecasts/reports, and annual budgets.
- Assists in auditing accounts to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Monitor and analyze fiscal department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Analyzes and establishes the rental cost of space
- Manages WRI leased office space assuring rent is paid, leases are up to date, etc.
- Manages and negotiates the organization’s insurance policies annually or as often as fiscally beneficial and oversee the claims submission process.
- Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Excellent management and supervisory skills and written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in the use of accounting and payroll software.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite; advanced user of Excel
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
Three to five years of related accounting experience desired.

Pay: $27.00 - $32.00 per hour
