Job Description Summary
The Logistics Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of the Shipping & Receiving team members engaged in the storage, shipment and receipt of raw materials and finished goods, and ensures that all policies and procedures are followed. This position is responsible for analyzing shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and best shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules and company cost objectives. The Logistics Supervisor reports to the Director of Operations.
The duties and responsibilities of the position will consist of, but are not limited to, the following:
- Develops departmental procedures and standards with continuous improvement emphasis
- Directly supervise shipping, receiving and material handling employees in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures as well as state and federal law
- Responsibilities include: interviewing; hiring; training; planning, assigning and directing work; performance evaluations; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing and resolving issues
- Provides training to all staff
- Responsible for the security and accountability of goods within jurisdiction
- Ensures that goods are packaged and protected for shipment according to specifications
- Coordinates with production, customer service and others to develop and meet shipping objectives
- Audits and approves freight invoices
- Resolves shipping issues; provide shipping quotes; establish best shipping methods
- Develops and maintain carrier performance metrics
- Develops/implements freight cost reduction strategies with high customer service satisfaction
- Ensures adequate cross-training for staffing back-up of responsibilities.
- Processes appropriate documents to execute customer pick-up (i.e. related shipping documents, bill of ladings, shipping manifests)
- Maintains knowledge of all routing guidelines as instructed by all vendors
- Maintains accurate backup documents to substantiate potential claims or charge-backs
- Interacts with outside vendors and outside customers
- Manages domestic freight transportation programs, import air, sea-air and ocean transportation activities
- Ensures support for internal and external customers in relation to:
- Domestic and international transportation activities
- Maintenance of shipping files
- Lost and damaged shipments
- Filing of claims, copies of bills of lading, shipment tracking numbers, proof of delivery, and export documentation
- Coordinates shipping arrangements for trade shows
- Perform-supervise daily cycle counts, variance reconciliation, reporting and record maintenance
- Analyzes variance root causes to eliminate inventory inaccuracy
- Perform-supervise transact all unplanned material transactions and miscellaneous receipts into ERP/MRP system
- Perform-supervise daily purchase order receipt transactions into ERP/MRP (this should be transferred to the receiver)
- Return Material authorization (RMA) processing and transacting
- Process –supervise shipping returns
- Manages and maintain warehouse layout including but not limited to Plan for Every Part and associated efficiencies
- Develops, trains and implements “lean materials handling management process” for the shipping; receiving and warehouse
- Develops visual factory for storage, shipping, and receiving
- Hands-on work ethic; anticipate being on the floor up to 70% of the time
- Ability to manage priorities and workflow for optimal performance in kaizen dynamic environment
- Ability to supervise people effectively with expertise in labor law compliance
- High proficiency with spreadsheet applications and transportation software
- Inventory control expertise; both physical storage systems and processes
- Ability to work under pressure to resolve complex freight issues
- Demonstrated ability to reduce inventory carrying costs and freight costs
- Visual factory, kanban, and lean material handling systems expertise

Requirements:
- Work Experience: 5 years of experience in Logistics/Shipping/Receiving/Warehouse, and 3 years of experience managing people. Significant experience with multiple carriers: Trucks, UPS, FEDEX and international freight forwarders at a minimum.
- Education: College Degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain, or relevant field
- Computer Skills: Intermediate skills Microsoft Office Suite, RIF scanners and ERP systems
- Organizational Skills: Ability to handle multiple priorities efficiently and effectively, strong problem-solving capabilities
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively across a diverse customer-base; good verbal and written communication skills and good interpersonal skills with ability to deal with individuals at all levels

Preferred Requirements:
- Work Experience: 10 years of experience in Logistics/Shipping/Receiving/Warehouse, and 5 years of experience managing people. Significant experience with multiple carriers: Trucks, UPS, FEDEX and international freight forwarders at a minimum.
- Education: Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain, or relevant field
- Computer Skills: Advanced knowledge of ERP systems including Syteline and/or Oracle

Salary : $64,300 - $81,400
