Job Description
Works-in-Progress Associates (WPA) is seeking an Office Engineer to become an integral part of our team! This position will work Monday-Friday with the State University Construction Fund (SUCF) at Cornell University, 300 Day Hall, 10 East Avenue, Ithaca, NY 14853.
The Project
Renovation of the 1930 era, 172,556 GSF Plant Science Building at Cornell into state-of-the-art laboratories and support spaces. This is a phased, gut-renovation to bring the building up to code and meet Deep Energy Retrofit goals. The Project scope includes all new floor plan layouts, new mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems, abatement of hazardous materials, window replacement, elevator upgrades, and measures to improve the thermal and energy performance of the building.
Minimum Requirements:
WPA is a woman-owned Owner's Representative firm and we manage construction projects for mostly nonprofits including schools, hospitals, libraries, etc. in the New York City area. We have been in business for over 30 years and have completed well over 400 projects. We currently have somewhere between 40-50 employees.
Because we are a woman-owned firm we are on contracts with larger Construction Management firms such as LiRo, Hill International, Jacobs, Tectonic, Gilbane, etc. and we help them to meet their WBE goals. We provide Project Managers, Inspectors, Estimators, Office Engineers and so on. Currently we are on about 10-15 different contracts.

Minimum Requirements:
- Baccalaureate Degree in engineering/architecture and/or construction related field from an accredited college or university is preferred.
- 5 years of experience in the general construction industry is preferred.
- OSHA 30 certification is required
- A driver's license valid in New York State.
- Demonstrated proficiency with all applicable software packages including but not limited to MS Office and Adobe Acrobat.
- Attending meetings and writing minutes of project meetings
- Monitor the project schedule and budget
- Provide document control oversight and perform document control when needed
- Prepare for preconstruction meeting (agenda, early action letter)
- Oversee Setup and maintenance of project files
- Process / distribute / review submittals, RFIs, project documents, correspondence
- Generate progress pay estimate or reviews contractor payment application for accuracy; ensure audit proof documentation is compiled for each pay estimate
- Manage RFIs, including distribution and log
- Perform labor compliance / EEO reviews / interviews
- Perform claims management tasks
- Perform schedule reviewing tasks
- Prepare correspondence
- Reviews certified payrolls and extra work bills for compliance with prevailing wage laws; conducting or coordinating labor compliance interviews, and documenting nonconformance
- Oversee Maintenance of all project logs
- Draft change orders/change notices
- Contract close-out
- Other duties related to construction site activities as needed
