DIRECTOR OF SAFETY (DOS)
[14 CFR 119.65(d)(1)}
1. Basic Function
a) As a member of the executive staff the Director of Safety holds a full-time position with World Atlantic
Airlines and reports directly to the Accountable Executive.
b) Maintains oversight, and is the primary management official, over the Company Safety Department.
c) Manages and oversees the Company's SMS and safety programs, Safety Committee, and associated
documentation. The Accountable Executive has delegated the task of maintaining, monitoring and
measuring the effectiveness of the SMS to the Director of Safety.
d) Manages and oversees the Company's Internal Audit Program (IEP).
e) Manages and oversees the Company's Emergency Response Program (ERP).
f) The Director of Safety must discharge his/her duties to meet applicable legal requirements and to
maintain safe operations. [14 CFR 119.65(d)(3)} As required by [14 CFR 5.55], he/she will have
responsibility and authority for making safety risk acceptance/mitigation decisions and determining
preventative/corrective actions involving operations.
2. Duties/Responsibilities
a) Responsible and accountable for the duties and responsibilities required of the DOS as required by
Part 11 9.65(a)(1 ).
b) Manages, develops, implements, and maintains SMS processes within the organization, including,
but not limited to:
( 1 ) Establishing and maintaining a safety information database; Safety Data Collection Tool (SDCT)
(2) Facilitating hazard identification and safety risk analyses
(3) Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness and relevancy of safety risk controls
(4) Ensuring safety processes are taught and promoted throughout the organization
(5) Communicating SMS information to employees relevant to the employee's job function
(6) Meeting regularly with the AE and reporting on safety management performance, safety
concerns and any needs for improvement
(7) Documenting, establishing and modifying SMS policies and procedures
(8) Developing the instructions and training for the Company's SMS and other safety programs
(9) Integrating and implementing the SMS and other safety programs throughout the organization
(10)Evaluating safety reports and audits to identify trends.
(11 ) Communicating and coordinating with senior management throughout the organization to
develop and implement safety policies and procedures
(12)Supporting the Safety Risk Management (SRM) process throughout the Company

(13)Supporting the Safety Assurance (SA) process throughout the Company
(14)Ensuring Safety Promotion throughout the Company
(15)Chairing Safety Review Board and SMS Meetings.
c) Direct the safety reporting programs: Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) and Voluntary
Disclosure Reporting Program (VDRP).
d) Establish, monitor and guide the Company's Safety Committee.
e) Maintain a full understanding of the following materials as they pertain to Company operations:
(1) Aviation safety standards and safe operating practices
(2) Appropriate provisions and requirements of 14 CFR I
(3) OpSpecs
(4) Company Manual System and contents
f) Direct the Internal Evaluation Program (IEP):
(1) Developing, scheduling and conducting internal audits
(2) Ensure follow-up action is taken by the respective departments for all internal audit findings
including random checks to ensure corrective action has been taken and is effective
(3) Notify the appropriate/responsible personnel of any findings of non-compliance with published
procedures, inconsistencies in procedures, and/or manuals, non-compliance with applicable
CFRs, and/or passenger complaints
(4) Develop content, implement, and maintain the IEP in accordance with the SPM.
g) Develop content, implement, and maintain the Emergency Response Manual (ERM) in accordance
with the manual control procedures for the effective handling of incidents, accidents, injuries, loss of
life or property including the review and evaluation of the adequacy of the emergency response plan.
h) Maintain a close liaison with the FAA, NTSB, and industry safety organizations and associations.
i) Ensure regulatory compliance is maintained with all applicable federal regulations including FAA and
OSHA.
j) Manage staff responsible for aircraft safety, occupational safety, security, drug and alcohol prevention
program (vendor), and internal evaluation of safety related programs.
k) Serve as a member of the Continuous Analysis Surveillance System (CASS) Board.
I) Coordinate with the AE on safety related budgetary decisions.
m) Communicating safety issues and cooperating with all employees and business partners to address
concerns.
n) Assisting departments with educating, implementing, and maintaining safety policies and procedures.
o) Meeting regularly with the DOS regarding safety issues and IEP reporting.
p) Chairs the Technical Publications Review Board.
q) Search FAA, ICAO, US State Department as well as industry websites on a monthly basis looking
for the most current information in support of WAA Operations.
r) Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the Commercial Aviation Safety Team
(CAST) and Safety Enhancements (SE).

3. Authorities
a) Lead and manage a risk-based safety management system (SMS).
b) Manage the safety relationship between employees and business partners to ensure a single level
of safety performance.
c) Conduct Company safety investigations.
d) Communicate and promote safety to all employees and business partners.
e) Facilitate regularly scheduled Safety Committee meetings.
f) Act as Company representative in VDRP process, including preparation of documents, preparation
of comprehensive fix proposals, process monitoring and interdepartmental collaboration.
g) He/ She may delegate his/her authority but not his/her responsibility. In the absence of the Director
of Safety, the Manager of Safety Systems, or other qualified individual, is authorized to assume
the duties of the Safety Department. The Director of Safety will notify WAA Management and FAA
Principals of his absence via any documentation process
Job Type: Full-time
