Overall Position Description:
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for the day-to day processing of accountant receivable transactions and reporting while maintaining accurate and complete records and ensuring compliance with financial policies and controls. The Senior Accountant will be integrally involved in the organization's financial processes and work closely with our colleagues across all departments in support of our mission and values.
The Senior Accountant, under the direction of the Senior Accounting Manager, will be responsible for tasks related to accounts payable, including maintaining a record of all bank transactions, management of our database sync tool, monthly bank and revenue reconciliations, and liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
The Senior Accountant will help ensure WFP USA staff adhere to documented policies and procedures and supports effective program implementation and an efficient audit and annual Form 990 process.
Highlighted Responsibilities:
- Records cash receipt transactions timely, accurately, and according to established policies and procedures. Works closely with the Development team to understand the restrictions for donations received and shares with Development team information on wires and stock donations received on a daily basis.
- Performs monthly bank reconciliations.
- Reconciles key account balances to the general ledger on a monthly basis, ensuring accuracy of assigned general ledger accounts.
- Works with vendor and Senior Accounting Manager to manager state registrations and filings.
- Works closely with Development and CRM teams to ensure consistency of revenue data across database and accounting systems.
- Oversees and maintains sync tool between database and accounting systems.
- Maintains internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue.
- Provides outstanding and timely customer support and collaborates with stakeholders as needed.
- Implements internal control policies and procedures as directed; reviews procedures periodically with the Finance team to ensure effectiveness.
- Prepares documents for annual audits as well as any compliance requirements relevant to above duties, as necessary and assigned.
- Complies with organization wide administration protocols, policies and procedures.
- Assists with special projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
A well-qualified candidate will possess:
- Understanding of and commitment to WFP USA's values.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or 7 years accounts receivable experience.
- Proven ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- A close eye for detail and a passion for logic puzzles is a benefit.
- Experience in a large non-profit with a focus on philanthropy is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 265 with strong Excel skills.
- Strong understanding of the financial statements and the impact of the monthly tasks on the trial balance.
- Understanding of grants management as it relates to compliance and reporting of government, corporate and foundation grants is beneficial.
- Advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software (Salesforce, Concur, and Sage Intacct).
- Keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial Information to non-financial users.
