Position Summary:

Wright & Hunter is a technology consulting, design, and project management firm that provides technology guidance and solutions to a variety of markets including education and commercial clients, as well as providing technology design services to architectural firms.Our Technology Designer / Project Manager is responsible for planning, designing, and overseeing the implementation of innovative technology systems in educational and other commercial facilities. This role requires expertise in developing future-ready technology infrastructure, ensuring alignment with educational goals, operational requirements, and compliance standards. The designer collaborates closely with educators, architects, engineers, and administrators to create environments that foster learning, safety, and efficiency.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Technology Infrastructure and System Design:
  • Develop comprehensive technology plans for educational facilities, incorporating Information Technology, Security, and Audio/Visual systems.
  • Design networked systems to support dynamic digital learning environments.
  • Produce bid specifications and bid forms for technology and security systems.
  • Evaluate contractor proposals, identify concerns, and clarifications for each contractor.
  • Interview contractors for clarification and evaluation purposes.
  • Recommend contractors for award based on the evaluation.
  • Collaboration and Consultation:
  • Support school administrators and educators to identify and implement current and future technological and security needs.
  • Partner with architects and engineering teams to integrate technology into building designs.
  • System Implementation and Oversight:
  • Specify, procure, and manage the installation of audio/visual systems, classroom technologies, IT, security, and communication tools.
  • Monitor construction and implementation to ensure adherence to plans, budgets, and timelines.
  • Compliance and Innovation:
  • Ensure all designs meet applicable building codes, accessibility requirements, and technology standards.
  • Observe BICSI, AVIXA, and ASIS standards and industry best practices in design and system utilization.
  • Stay informed on emerging trends in educational technology and apply innovative solutions.
  • Project Management:
  • Prepare cost estimates, project scopes, and timelines for technology-related initiatives.
  • Attend Owner, Architect, and Construction Manager meeting(s).
  • Submittal review, comments, and approvals.
  • Respond to Request For Information (RFI) from contractors.
  • Attend Owner, Architect, & Construction Manager (OAC) meetings.
  • Conduct weekly or biweekly walkthroughs and inspections for quality and progress during technology and security project implementations.
  • Conduct weekly or biweekly status meetings with contractors monitoring progress, coordinating with other construction trades, clear obstacles, and manage financials
  • Perform site inspections with the issuance of a punch list for each technology and security system.
  • Perform subsequent inspection to confirm punch list is complete for each system.
  • Final close-out documentation review for each system including warranty registrations and certifications.
  • Oversee vendor selection and contract management for technology systems.
  • Manage all phases of project implementation throughout construction.

Quality Assurance:

  • Design and approve technology system documents and deliverables.
  • Conduct quality control checks to ensure accuracy and completeness of designs.
  • Address and resolve any technical issues that arise during construction.

Mentorship and Leadership:

  • Mentor and train junior designers and support staff.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the team.
  • Lead design review meetings and provide constructive feedback.

Client Interaction:

  • Interface with clients to understand project requirements and provide technical solutions.
  • Prepare and present project proposals, reports, and technical presentations.
  • Ensure client satisfaction through effective communication and project management.

Other:

  • Performs other duties, as assigned.

Supervision Received:

General Direction: Plans and arranges own work. Uses a wide range of procedures to accomplish assigned objectives.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Advanced supervision: Determines work assignments, priorities, and procedures for subordinates. Responsible for assigning, scheduling, and ensuring the quality and quantity of work. Provides training and coaching.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technology Design, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field; preferred.
  • 5 years of experience designing and implementing technology systems; ideally in educational or commercial facilities.
  • Proficiency in audio-visual integration, cabling and networking infrastructure, and security systems.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing and delivering complex projects.
  • Demonstrated creative thinking, design ability, and technical proficiency.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD), Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) and / or BICSI certified Network Technology Specialist (NTS); preferred
  • Member of Building Industry Consultant Services International (BICSI); a plus.

Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Member of Building Industry Consultant Services International (BICSI); a plus.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.).
  • Proficiency in tools such as Bluebeam Revu, AutoCAD, Revit, or Building Information Modeling (BIM).
  • Strong understanding of technology codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical skills, and project management skills.
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication and active listening skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; with attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of audio-visual systems, classroom technologies, public address systems, and master clock systems.
  • Knowledge structured cabling, security cameras, intrusion alarm, , access control, and/or mass notification.
  • Experience designing integrated voice, data and video technology systems, and security systems for K-12 and other commercial facilities.
  • Experience in managing client relationships and business development.
