What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deputy Engineering Manager position at WSP?
WSP is currently initiating a search for a skilled and dynamic Deputy Engineer Manager to join our team in Virginia on a large-scale highway infrastructure project. This role will be based in Norfolk, VA onsite at the client project office.
This project aims to deliver state-of-the-art transportation solutions, ensuring reliability, efficiency, and sustainability for our coastal communities of Norfolk and Hampton, Va. As a Deputy Engineering Manager on the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel Expansion Project, you will play a key role in supporting engineering operations and delivering high-quality results within time and budget constraints.
Your Impact- Assist the Engineering Manager and Project Manager in the planning and review of civil, hydrological, traffic, structural, utility, marine, ITS and environmental submissions.
- Support the coordination of various interdisciplinary teams to review and approve technical and construction submittals.
- Contribute to the preparation and/or review of technical reports, designs, and management plans to ensure compliance with Client expectations and project specifications.
- Provide technical support and troubleshoot issues that arise during the construction phase.
- Participate in project meetings to offer solutions to technical challenges, and report on progress to senior management, WSP’s Client, and its stakeholders.
- Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
- Remain current in latest civil engineering techniques and practices.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or closely related discipline.
- 7 to 10 years of relevant post education experience in engineering roles on large infrastructure projects, preferably involving highways, tunnels, or similar civil works.
- Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, construction practices, and VDOT standards.
- Familiarity with design software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar) and project management tools.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate with WSP and it’s subconsultant in-person and remote teams.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and keen attention to detail.
- A proactive and solution-oriented mindset to ensure project success
- Proficient with civil engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
- Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Engineering. Engineer license.
