Position Summary Information
General Summary
The Industrial Electrician / Mechanical Tech (High Voltage) performs electrical work at the journey level in the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems within the Electrical Mechanical Section. If assigned to the Anaerobic Digestion / Combined Heat & Power (AD / CHP) facility, shares in the effective operation and maintenance of facility's equipment.
Essential Functions
- Oversees subordinate Electrical Mechanics
- Determines reasons for wear and repairs various types of mechanical items such as pumps, compressors, conveyors, screens, valves, fans, etc. and makes appropriate repairs / recommendations for prevention
- Replaces belts, bearings, couplings, chains, bearings, sprockets, augers, shafts, grease lines and flights as necessary and makes appropriate repairs / recommendations for prevention
- Installs pumps, motors, pipes, street lights, heaters, exhaust fans, main feeders, conduits, valves, breakers, switchgear, and electrical controls as required
- Repairs pneumatic and hydraulic control systems on valves and bubbler systems
- Repairs controls of various voltages and types such as variable speed and synchronous motors
- Maintains electrical substations up to 69KV
- Services heating and air conditioning systems
- Services generators and their associated automatic starting equipment
- Installs, inspects, tests & repairs a wide variety of other electrical or mechanical equipment
- Maintains gas collection and treatment equipment as well as gas flaring systems as needed
- Maintains high and low-pressure steam boilers
- Maintains and repairs drive units, fuel pumps, air compressors, lump breakers, grinders, scum pumps, off-gas systems, fuel oil tanks, multi-hearth incinerators and pumps
- Lubricates and paints plant equipment; performs general plumbing and replaces malfunctioning pumps
- Repairs and maintains water softener systems, cranes, boiler feed pumps, centrifuges, air dryers, re-aeration tanks and pneumatic controls
- Repairs bar screens and conveyors and replaces couplings
- Assists Electrical / Mechanical Section Manager in the repair of transformers, high voltage power supplies, and other equipment
- Drives a vehicle to conduct WSSC Water business
