The GEAR UP Program at WSU Tri-Cities is looking to fill two tutor positions for Chiawana High School.
The Tutor will be responsible for working with students in the graduating classes of 2026, current 11th graders in all academic subjects, with a primary focus on STEM. Tutors will provide outreach services to students to include, providing individual/group tutoring and academic advising and mentoring. We are seeking a tutor with strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills. A strong candidate will have the ability to assess student needs and articulate academic concepts in varying, yet effective ways. Tutors must be comfortable with both in-class, during school lunch, and after-school tutoring, and should have the ability to adapt one’s tutoring style to fit individual students’ needs. Tutors develop positive relationships with students and support students' goals for their future and encourage a college-going mindset. Tutors may be assigned additional tasks via the site manager.
Tutors will provide outreach services to students to include, providing individual/group tutoring and academic advising and mentoring.
Tutors will work mornings and/or afternoons Monday - Friday, no more than 19 hours per week. This is an in-person position located at Chiawana High School in Pasco, WA. This position will report to the GEAR UP Site Manager.

Hourly Rate: $17.79
Hours per week: up to 19 per week
Work Schedule: working in person, mornings and/or afternoons Monday - Friday
Requirements:
Minimum of a high school diploma OR high school honor student, must be 16 or older
Experience in providing tutoring services.
Ability to work with the target population.
Knowledge in specific content areas such as math, science, history, and ELA.
Ability to work flexible hours and attend tutor training sessions.
Ability to maintain regular attendance and be punctual.
Preferred Qualifications:
At least one year of college for undergraduate students OR high school honor student, must be 16 or older
College level competence in Math, Science, History and/or Language Arts
Ability to promote and inspire college readiness skills.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Bilingual/Biliterate in Spanish
Reliable transportation.
