OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB
Responsible for developing and executing health and safety functions and minimizing the risk of job-related accidents. Serves as Chairman of the Safety Committee. Coordinates all safety related training to create a culture that helps mitigate risk.
Ensures overall Teammate safety by striving for an accident-free work environment through Teamwork, ongoing training, inspections, gap analysis and reviews of operating procedures. Collaborates with all department managers to achieve desired results, maintaining training requirements and the proper documentation of same.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide continued monitoring of OSHA and Ohio laws as applicable to the company, ensuring compliance with regulations, recommending changes as required. Advises management on changes in all applicable laws and their requirements pertaining to Wyandot, Inc.
Ensure inspection ready records on all phases of safety training.
Identify safety issues that require process or procedural changes within the operations, maintenance, sanitation, quality assurance and warehouse departments, implementing corrective policies and procedures where needed.
Direct accident investigation procedures and keep records of safety related accidents and propose corrective actions.
Manage new employee safety orientation program
Collaborate with all teams to ensure the best served method or solution to long term safety goals and safety development is achieved.
Assist Plant Engineering Manager in reviewing all proposed structural changes relating to additions or modification to existing building structure or structures that may have bearing on either the Ohio Building Code or the Ohio State Fire Code.
Manage and update health and safety programs that include training for areas such as forklift training, lockout tag-out, Haz-Com standards, confined entry, Bloodborne Pathogen standards, evacuation procedures and all others that may apply to Wyandot, Inc. facilities.
Serve as a sounding block for all teammate’s safety suggestions, responding to all and implementing ideas as they become feasible.
Maintain a positive working relationship with the Management/Union Safety Committee, while serving as chairman.
Participate in Workers Compensation matters, such as accident investigation, Wyandot, Inc. representative at hearings involving claims and ongoing research to reduce workers compensation costs.
Administer the Safety Awards Program.
Communicate via telephone or email with internal and external customers.
Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree preferred
7-10 years of experience applying, and educating safety programs
Plant floor focused
Ability to identify gaps, implement corrective actions, and sustain
Team collaboration and execution
Ability to hold all levels accountable to safety standards
Diligent and sense of urgency
Microsoft Office experience including SharePoint
