Overview
Coventry Vale Winery is one of Washington’s largest custom crush wineries. We provide premier custom crush services to an array of customers both domestically and internationally.
The Assistant Winemaker position is responsible for performing enology functions associated with the winemaking process across all Coventry Vale locations and functionally at a specific site during our harvest season.
Job Description:
Work together with the winemaking team to achieve production protocols and targets for custom winemaking.
Collaborate with the winemaking team to uphold winemaking goals and company values while striving for continuous improvement.
Oversee, create, and assign work orders and chemical additions for winemaking and juicing in accordance with winemaking directions.
Collaborate with cellar supervisors to coordinate the execution of work orders and assist in identifying any issues they encounter.
Schedule and coordinate all juice and wine shipping.
Create and distribute shipping schedules to customers.
Review wine analysis and communicate out-of-specification wines to winemaking.
Work with Winemaking team to manage tank space and ensure guidelines are met for timely production.
Communicate directly with Winemaking team regarding wine specifications and protocols.
Maintain a clear and open line of communication with Winemaking team to promote dialogue, growth, and development.
Monitor ferments, identify issues, and support troubleshooting. Utilize information from lab on brix and temperatures. Use sensory analysis to determine health of ferments and plan necessary proposed action steps.
Engage with customers to understand their needs and provide exceptional customer service. Build and maintain positive relationships.
Resolve customer inquiries and issues promptly and effectively.
Maintain ongoing communications with customers to ensure customer satisfaction.
Provide insight into budget planning to Winemaking team and provide proposed plan to Directing Winemaker.
Prepare wine and juice blends for customers upon request.
Attend on and off-site tastings and events.
Prepare, evaluate, and effectively communicate inventory and lab reports to customers.
Work seven days per week during our harvest season (generally September through November).
Manage wine production at our Mattawa facility. This role necessitates traveling to Mattawa seven days a week during the harvest season (September to November) and making weekly trips during the off-season. Transportation will be provided.
Requirements
- 3-5 years of enology or winemaking experience required.
- Experience working at least three grapes harvest in production winemaking.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to empathize with customers and address their concerns.
- Ability to work weekends and shift work during harvest.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
